Since those buttons are not on the screen when you set it to remove them and use swipes for the same function, the answer is no.

I am hoping that OnePlus will come up with a gesture for split screen. Or one could set a gesture if you use Nova Launcher to do the same thing.

Agreed. I don't use split screen a lot, but I use double tap to switch apps all the time, and double tap to sleep.

Couple quick questions I didn't see on the OP support site.

Would I then start getting OTAs for new beta updates, or OTAs to go back to the regular track?

If I decide I want to go back to the regular track, would I just download that package from OP and flash it the same way?

On the first question, the answer is yes, you get the beta OTA.

I think the OnePlus website tells you how to go back to non beta. Check out the FAQ section.

I'm not finding a definitive resource on how to leave the beta, but oh well. I took the plunge anyway.

Why do they mess with the quick settings area with every update lol. It looks awful now.

Otherwise so far so good. The gestures were neat to tinker with, but I don't think they're complete enough to live with.

I do agree. There are some things they could add to the gestures to incorporate more clearly some of the button functions. Hopefully they will in future updates.
