Once you start doing custom roms, you develop a disdain for ota stuff. Back when 404 was ota, every single one of us in the rooting section had absolutely no desire for the stinkin ota. :)

I used to roll my eyes every time I saw a post telling anyone asking about OTAs to just root...and why have a gnex of you're not going to root. Being rooted for a few months now, I completely get it. Although now I'm addicted to flashing. I may need professional help...

I unlocked and rooted so I could get me some Jelly Bean action. Finally was motivated to since JB actually brings with it new features and better performance. I was willing to wait for the 4.0.4 OTA... that was painful, but that wasn't a major update like JB.

I used to be the guy that wondered what rooting was like.. then I rooted my evo 4g.. I didn't understand the hype ... later rooted my evo 3d.. still didn't get the excitement..
got my Verizon gnex and I'm going to leave it alone. The phone is plenty fast enough.. plus I got my phone so I don't have to use my computer lol rooting is not fun to me!

You are so right!

IMHO, most people are wary of rooting because of all the warnings and disclaimers about turning their phone/tablet into a brick. This is very unlikely to happen unless they are a "mad clicker" and launched into the endeavor without pre-reading or understanding the simple instructions.

Once they do it, they don't go back. I've recruited quite a few at work to root their phones/tablets and every one of them will frequently ask rhetorically why they didn't do it sooner. It's like a race now... seeing who tried the latest roms and what did they think about them.

I finally rooted and added a ROM when the JellyBean leak came out. Now I am trying every ROM I can. It is addicting. Try a rom, then back up to my daily driver when I am finished playing.

As each day passes I get closer to rooting my phone and trying a job rom. They only reason I have not rooted thus far is I want my phone to be something I don't have to think about, so that when I start work again (teacher), I won't have to worry about checking for updates.

However I do not want to have to wait for 3 months for this update..

Also does google video work if you root?

I say just wait it out if your not sure about rooting your phone. Im sure 4.1 Jelly Bean will be released very soon. Just hang in there.

You most likely will be waiting a while before the OTA from VZW. I say September would be the earliest it rolls out.

I say root and get JB on your GNEX now, the ROMS available now are already super stable and simply awesome compared to ICS. Updates to ROMS are usually minor once they get to a certain stability point, and some will make more customizations available as time goes by, so there is no need to think about it or worry about it anymore once you find one you like and has most or all of the bugs worked out. I'm on Jelly Belly 3.4 and have zero issues, and absolutely love the smoothness and stability and new features of JB.

I don't use google video, so can't comment on that, but rooting rarely (if ever) would cause an app to stop working. Rooting is simply giving you full admin rights to your phone's OS/files, etc. Like gaining admin rights on your PC/Laptop, in a way.

Root and rom that sucka!
I can pretty much guarantee that once you on a custom rom and kernel, the ota will completely leave your mind. OTA SCHMO-TA they suck.

Plus, once you root, like others have said, it is COMPLETELY addicting.

Don't like the screen hue? Multiple kernel apps to fix that ish.

Hate your flashlight app, or lack thereof? Most ROMs build it into the power button to be used with the screen off.

Want a phablet? Phone/tablet hybrid ROM with some tablet app DPIs and some phone DPIs? SIMPLE.

My girlfriend thinks I love her less now that I'm a crackflasher. She might be right.

I know I'm going to regret asking this... but what is a crackflasher? :(
Is it like a regular trench coat flasher, but only the reverse is showing? (i.e. a hospital gown)

All your apps will update on a custom rom just as they would stock. Looks like you're running out of excuses:p
