Will the otter commuter for the z force work on the z play. I know that it will block the headphone jack. I contacted otter they were no help.

I would check the size and dimensions on GSM Arena and see if they match, if so and you don't care about the blocked headphone jack should be fine

I want to say the phones are a little different thickness. Can't say for sure, but I'd suspect it wouldn't really fit right.

There is a mm difference in the height and width of the two phones. The dimensions are on Verizons website in the specs for the phones.
