Otterbox recommendations

I need to buy an Otterbox case for my granddaughters new phone. I am not an otterbox user and she's only 17 and not real familiar with them either. I am looking for your input on this. Do all the different models protect equally? I am trying to keep the size of the additional bulk down although I realize the OtterBox is going to make the phone bigger and bulkier. I just don't have the time tonight to do a lot of research and I value the opinions of you people here. Thanks!

The commuter offers better protection in my opinion though.

I have a friend with a defender and there is no way I would want to put that on my phone let alone a phone belonging to a 17 year old girl.

The commuter does look a little less bulky to me.

IMO thats the kind of case you would want a 17yr old to use. My 14yr old has a Defender on his Moto X and refuses to use a phone without one of those cases on it. If you are looking for a Note 3 otterbox I have one for sale in the classifieds here....

When I'm not using the Zerolemon case and battery, I use a Trident. Looks cool, great protection, good feel, good access to everything, easy on/off and not bulky at all. And best of all you don't feel violated when you buy a Trident like you do when you buy an Otterbox. Those things are crazy money!

Depends on the protection you want. Otterbox defender gives a lot of protection. Otterbox commuter gives less but still good. There are thinner cases that give even less protection

I can't recommend the dual pro which I had on my note 3. The soft touch started to peel in multiple places after a week of use.

If she is prone to butter fingers then I would get her the Defender case. It offers all around protection. The Commuter is a little less bulky but doesn't offer the full screen protection.
Both cases offer sealed ports. What I have noticed with the Defender case though, is the charging port plug is pretty stiff. Sometimes it applies too much pressure to the charging cable for my liking.

On a side note, keep in mind that with OtterBox, you are going to be getting some great customer service with your case. If anything is ever to break on it, or if the rubber were to rip, or stretch out, just contact OtterBox and they will replace it!

You definitely get your money worth with their cases.

I use the Commuter case and I love it. When I first bought it, I was worried it was going to be too bulky because it looked really bulky in the box, but when it was finally on the phone it didn't make it too bulky or large. Also in my opinion, the Platinum Series are good also, my boyfriend had dropped his Note 3 while getting out of the car and the phone was perfectly fine as well as the case, there's no scruff marks on it.

Tons of teens and younger even have Otterbox cases. Many have the Defender.
I personally do for my Note 3 and I had one on my last iPhone. screen protection is why I like the Defender and the Note is already big so a little more thickness to protect it is no big deal and it fits in a front jeans pocket still.

That's interesting, I've used different dual pro cases on different phones for the last 3 years and never had that problem. All my cases have been black though which might make a difference. What color was yours?

I was going to recommend the dual pro, but if it's having peeling problems then the otterbox commuter is a good choice. I prefer the soft texture of the dual pro over otterbox box cases.
