You know how you start typing a person's name in the to field, and it gives you a drop down of people with that name that you've emailed before, or added as a contact? Well, many of the people I email on a regular basis from one email account are not showing up, while it does still show some of my contacts, as well as contacts from my other email accounts.

I ran app updates, and there was one for Gmail. Installed it, and then rebooted my phone. Still having the issue

Go to the main Settings>Accounts menu in the system settings. If that email account is listed there as its own account, then tap it and see if Contacts sync is turned on.

I checked, and it is already set up to sync contacts. I even turned it off and back on and bad if refresh and sync now. Still nothing

This has been happening to me as well. I thought it was my mate 7 so i used that as a reason to upgrade to the note 8 last year, i had a note 5 and loved it so why not come back to Sammy. Anyway, it happened again. I made sure i anyways have sync on and i always copy my contacts to all my accounts and i still have this issue. Hopefully someone knows how to help.

Yeah, this is a real nuisance.

I don't pretend to completely understand what or why it happened, but I experienced the same disappearances after using the contacts for years. here is how I fixed it. Go to Google.com/contacts on a desktop computer. In the left menu click on MORE and then OTHER CONTACTS . You may find all of your "missing" contacts in there. if so, you can select all (ctl A) and then click on the small person icon at the top. This will move all of them to MY CONTACTS which will sync with the contacts app on your phone/tablet. give it a minute to sync and you may find you now have recovered all the contacts.
