OUTLOOK and E-MAIL

Go to "settings" then "connect to pc" and choose "sync". I think the default is charge only. Let me know how you make out.

thanks, do you mean file and synch now? it won't let me, for whatever reason, I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.

The "settings" button is on the phone on the apps page.

oops! found it, although now I don't have an option to connect to PC, I have default connection type, then it says synch. I'm at work now so can't try it till later.

As a former BB and long time Palm user ...I expected to use HTC synch...NO NEED ...export outlook calendar and contacts to Google Calendar. Google calendar and outlook with synch with each other. and the Google calendar will synch with your HTC Incredible WITHOUT ever cabling it to your PC. The only time my Incredible has a cab le attached is for charging the battery!
This amazes me. I have been doing this for a week with no concerns

This is what I did and it works great! I don't use the HTC sync anymore, it just screws everything up on my phone and my computer, then it takes forever to fix it all! I came from a blackberry Tour......

I tried using the google mail thingy but it wouldnt let me send my work e-mail from it. but while i was playing with it i found the auto sync to be incredible.

Thanks spddare65, I now have all my contacts downloaded, now to set up my email address that is not gmail...somehow I found this easier on my touch, now I have the learning curve all over again.

You'll get it. I found these forums to be really helpful. I read all the droid forum posts, well all that i could stand to read any way, and they cover just about every issue know to man.

yes, when you are a newbie like me these boards are wealth of info, just have to hunt around a bit.

I agree with others, gSyncit is the best option. No cable connections ever needed and doesn't need a wireless connection from your mobile device to PC. It uses your PC's internet connection to sync to Google. Your mobile device already syncs with Google. It syncs mobile device, Outlook, Google Calendar/gmail online. Any changes to contacts, calendar, tasks, or notes whether on your mobile device, Google online, or on Outlook on your PC will sync changes to all of the others in the background. (If you make changes on Outlook, it updates your PC and mobile, changes to mobile updates the others, changes to Google online updates the others.) I have just switched to the Evo and it works great and it will work on the Inc. I used it for about 10 months on my Palm Pre. It will work with just about any mobile device so you can keep using it if you change devices and you don't have to re-setup the software. $15 is a cheap dinner...well worth it.

Shared Exchange?

I don't know if you are committed to the "free" solution - but the most time effective and effortless option I have found is to have my office email/own domain name email hosted by a shared exchange server for about $9 a month. Push email, contacts and calendar - real time updates - OTA (no cables) all make it worth while. Just a thought.

gSyncit is real-time updated and only costs $15 one-time. Not $9 every month. Try it, you WILL like it...and the developer, Dave, responds to emails usually within a couple of hours.

of an even better solution is to let google apps host your email account for free. then you get exchange email, calendar, and contacts all syncd up just like your gmail, with the same interface that you are used to with gmail. i use it for my business, works great.

I am noticing that when I delete or move an appointment on my outlook; it does not reflect on my incredible. Any ideas?

Does your Outlook sync with Google Calendar? You have to set it up - it's not an automatic thing.

Well, I sync with exchange through HTC and have all calander views but exchange turned off.

Sorry, I don't do Exchange, but from the sound of it I don't think you're gonna get the sync you want with Exchange turned off and not using Google Calendar sync.

The "free" solutions documented all work however gSyncit which costs less than $15.00 does all kinds of good things and can be schedules to do them automatically. The ability to switch Google contacts to last name first name without re-entering made the cost well worth it. Since the INC and gMail contacts and calendar sync automatically it is a simple task to have gSyncit sync to Outlook daily. This works for me because I never add contacts or calendar items to anything but my INC. By the way if you add tasks using Astrid on your phone it has an option to add to your calendar as well. This will sync to Google calendar and then to Outlook so you do get tasks.

I'm just about ready to get a Droid X wgen Verizon has it available and I'm an Outlook user too (2003). Will gsyncit sync multiple Contacts folders in Outlook?

I will never add or change contacts or calendar on the Droid, just in Outlook. Any problems there do you think?

I am moving from a BB Storm to the Dinc. I am trying to sync from my Outlook for emails, contacts, tasks, and notes and from what I am seeing there is nothing that exists that will sync all 4 items? This is absolutely bull****. Am I the only one that uses tasks and notes? Are we not going backwards in technology? I thought Android was supposed to be the 2nd coming of the lord.

For all but the notes, the Touchdown app works great for syncing with Exchange. Try it out and if you like it, suggest to the developer to add Notes support.
