When I first got my Optimus V it'd been, and still is, my first android phone. I jumped in ass first and followed a guide to put Clockwork Recovery and aospcmod on my phone. I've been reading up on Bumblebee and Xionia recovery and want to try that out.

The only problem that I am faced with is I don't know how to change recoveries, how to wipe, backup, and install a new rom & kernel. Any help, much appreciated.

there are links in there that explain how to flash and backup. i guess you want to be spoon fed

Yes, there are links to flash and backup, Not links on how to remove a current recovery and swap it out for another. Nor are there links to switch roms safely. I asked for help, I didn't ask to be patronized.

I believe bumblebee works with clockwork so you don't really have to change recovery's

Not a chance I'm really willing to take. I honestly just want to back up my phone, and return to stock; unrooted and all... and then start over from square one. If someone would help me do that, it'd be awesome.

EDIT: and what I just said happens to be on the bottom of the Help post that ceejay linked... I'll try that, and come back here yelling if it doesn't work ;P

you dont remove and install recoveries, you flash them on top of each other. like a rom. but through ADB or terminal.

and yes you actually CAN just download the bumblebee rom and flash it right from clockworkmod recovery without any problems, as long as you wipe everything.

i would suggest downloading bumblebee, using clockwork to make a nandroid of your current rom, flash bumblebee, see how you like it (froyo vs gingerbread) and then you can make the choice to stick with it or go back

to go back all you would do is boot into clockworkmod and restore that nandroid you just made.

your more than 50% there, other step is to just flash bumblebee and be done with it. no need for xionia unless you want to flash other froyo roms. bumblebee supports CWM

Why don't you try the new IHO/BACKside CM7.1 ROM? It's better than aospmod, and works with clockworkmod already. It's being actively developed. Runs very smoothly and good battery drain (less than 1%/hour idling for me. The only major issue is bluetooth doesn't work yet.

I'm not up to date on all the roms that are out there. I really enjoy CM7's settings but theres no official port and the unofficials are a let down.

I wound up:
Titanium backup
Nandroid backup
Backup SD card to computer
Format SD card
Wiping everything from CWM
Using BB wiper zip
Installing BB zip in CWM.

It was actually a lot easier than I imagined, I was really over thinking it.

I am new to this as well. I also was wondering how to do this, although I wanted to go from BB to a gingerbread rom. Thanks for answering how exactly one does it. I didn't realize that you could simply install one recovery over another. The thing I'm curious about is the nandroid backups. Isn't the most important one that you do the very first with the stock rom? So that you can go back to stock? I don't understand why you'd do a nandroid backup each time you install a rom? The titanium backups I understand... So that you can restore all of your Apps and settings. Isn't the first nandroid backup enough? Thanks for your patience guys.

the first nandroid is so you can get back to stock.

after stock you might get really comfortable in another ROM. like for me, i have a custom launcher and a bunch of apps all signed in to various accounts on my aospCM7 rom.

when i try a new rom, i make a nandroid of my current rom, a nandroid saves your rom EXACTLY as it was at that moment. so lets say u make a nandroid, then wipe it all and start fresh on a new rom, where u sign in to various accounts and download apps all over again.

thats all well and good but if you decide u dont like the rom and want to go back, youd have to repeat that process.

if you just restore the nandroid, its like you never wiped the rom in the first place. phone works exactly as it did before you wiped it. with all the custom settings and apps intact.
