Remember when text messages were 10¢ each? Then you could get a plan with 500, 750, 1000, etc.? And rollover minutes? And now realizing what a complete ripoff it was?

Verizon is doing the same thing with data now. For that reason, I'm paying ETF's and leaving at the end of the month.

Something that you can do is this: You can get an inexpensive GSM unlocked device, like the Moto E, and test out TMo or another GSM carrier like Cricket. Both don't have contracts, and being that you have your own device, it could be cheaper that way.

I say go to tmo or cricket to. Cricket works on atnt. I agree with the op all the way.

If I did not have the grandfathered plan I have, I would definitely be on another carrier.

That's the exact reason why I won't willingly give up unlimited data. Btw.... You know what is ironic? It costs me 20 cents to receive a text from another line on my family plan even if that person is standing next to me. Yet I am now half way around the world. Cost for the text to travel half way around the world and on a roaming partner? 5 cents.

However due to my legacy plan, Verizon is by far the cheapest compared to other carriers plans, current or legacy. We are talking order of magnitude here. That and Verizon gets superior service where I need it.

Now if another carrier can provide what Verizon provides for less in terms of pricing and service then I will switch immediately. I suggest anyone else do the same, regardless of what carrier you are on now.

To each there own. We use a ton of minutes and texts, so unlimited for those is a huge boon. Plus now that devices are unsubsidized and separate from the calling plan we save a bunch vs. Keeping the unlimited and still having to pay for devices. We were paying near $200 after taxes for our two lines. Now we pay about $100 before devices and after taxes for our 2 lines and 10gb of data.

That's actually the exact OPPOSITE. SMS has zero cost because it rides on top of existing tower to phone communication. Data usage has a cost, and that should be reflected in pricing.

Tmo gives unlimited plans because they're a last place carrier with a weak network. As soon as they get solidly into 2nd or 3rd place those kind of plans are going to disappear very very quickly.

T-Mobile is basically in 3rd place now. I don't think they will get rid of unlimited anytime soon, as its the main driver to there adds.

That's a load. We were told the same thing about SMS. Data I'm sure has some cost but not that much. If T mobile with a "weaker" network can offer unlimited data on which some customers use 80+GB in a month, than surely Verizon's "most reliable and largest network" can offer me more than 8GB for $150.

I used to have my head up big red's ****. Now they are clearly in the same category as Comcast. Legally stealing

Yes even know 80 GB a month is out rages. Verizon's costs are just is out rages. They have the network to support it but juice to over charge the customer. Why am I may be leaving.

Why I'm glad I have unlimited data, never had to worry about it, and while I don't use a lot, compared to some, I still average 10-12 gigs a month, and unless Verizon wants to give me, oh 15 or so for 30-40 a month, I'm not giving it up.

And more so, unlimited text messages, and hysterically so, between me, my brother and my mom, only have used like 68 minutes out of our 700. Good thing a lot of people I call have Verizon.

10gb on Verizon is currently $80.

And it is precisely because of Verizon's superior network that it can charge more. Those who want to pay less can go to a cheaper carrier. So long as Verizon has the best network, it isn't going to provide the best deals.

Comcast isn't a similar comparison as cable companies have monopolies in different areas. There is only one cable company in my area. However for cellular, you can pick any carrier you want.

T-mobile is buying business - they just had their first profitable quarter in recent memory. Once they hit their subscriber targets, shareholders are going to look for a heck of a lot more than $100million quarterly profit, especially considering Comcast is posting $1billion+ over the same time frame.

Here's what I don't understand... We have a plan for $85 for 8 GB.. Plus my phone and my wife's is $40 more EACH for access to the plan. What the hell?? I can buy a plan, and then I have to buy access to the plan I just bought??? Suck it Verizon !

First off, you should switch to the current rates - for $80 you'd get 10gb, or you can switch down to $70 for 6gb. Second, the $40 includes the device subsidy. If you were on Edge that'd be $15 + the cost of the phone. Third, if you don't like it you can switch carriers, but they all charge a per device access fee in addition to the basic charge. That's how a share plan works.
