Interested to hear what the opinions are for overclocking the Captivate? Does anyone do it? Is there any real benefit?

I'm running CM7.1 and it's already very fast - much faster than default. Is there a significant performance boost from a small nudge on the CPU? I wouldn't want to max it out or anything, just bump it up a bit.

Let's hear your thoughts.

On CM, for general usage, I did not find an overclock necessary. However, movie playback at standard speeds has a little chop/slideshow effect that does go away with a 1.2Ghz OC (this is on CM, stock it does not have the chop). This in turn drains your battery a little quicker though, which is already a little faster draining on CM, so you do get a tad of a double-dip on that issue. If you have an extra battery or rarely are away from a charger, no problem. Very few phones can't handle the 1.2 overclock it seems.

But other than the movie playback, I found it unnecessary.

EDIT- Hey all you CM users! Last time I tried to use CM, BT Audio was busted and there were quite a few instances of people having BT issues. I was searching the threads the other day and some people seemed to report the problem resolved in recent nightlies. Anyone here able to confirm BT Audio function is back? Total deal breaker for me :).

Hmm, thanks for the reply. I don't do much movie playing, and when I do I don't have a problem with it running smoothly. I'll keep it in mind if I notice some lagging though.

I guess for now there's no benefit. I'd rather play safe and baby my CPU, keep it nice and cool! :-!

I am currently running CM7. 1 on my Captivate. I use BT headset and BT car audio without any issues. It could have been fixed in a privous release. Just my experience.

The most recent nightlies (163 and up) also have something called "NEON acceleration".. or was it optimization?... not exactly sure what it is, but it seems smoother.

I haven't flashed any recent nightlies of CM7, I have an old one, but I am running at 1.7GHz (I was lucky enough to get a phone that can handle it) with the Glitch kernel. To be honest, eye to eye for every day things, it's just about keeping up there with my SGSII for anything I throw at it. I love my Captivate, still do.
