Overheating issue

Over the first few days of owning my g3 I had no problems up until recently. Every time I play an app or video now, the top half of my screen and top half of the back side of the phone get extremely hot. Also the power button since it's metal/plastic is the hottest point. Any tips on how to fix overheating? Or even just reduce it slightly.

How many days are we talking? If you are still within the exchange window I would return it.
I say this becasue I believe that the overheating issue is not the norm.
I am on my second G3 and neither have ever gotten hot no matter what I do.

It's way past the exchange date. I believe it was purchased on black Friday. But the over heating just became an issue not too long ago. I contacted LG to ask and the customer service rep told me to try another battery. That's it.

Set screen to auto brightness, set to 50% on slider. Make sure it can breath. Make sure you don't have unneeded stuff running in the background.

Like buying a new car but being told not to drive it over 30mph because it will overheat.

The thing is I don't want to receive an already refurbished phone though. I know they're tested and whatnot before theyre sent out but I've had nothing but bad experiences with refurbished electronics.

I agree. The phone should be capable of recording 4K video for many minutes on nice brightness without overheating to any capacity. I understand this is a task that heats up the phone pretty good due to all the work it has to do. Another thing would be using the GPS for long periods of time. Either way, you shouldn't have to deal with an over-heating phone.

Note: Smartphones can get pretty warm, and this is normal. It's not like that have active cooling! You have to decipher the difference between over-heating and really warm. This might not be easy to determine.

So the options are a potential refurbished phone that works per design or a new one that overheats?
I understand your concerns about refurbished phones...I went that route before and had to send 2 refurbished units back until I got one that was acceptable.

I unfortunately had to get a refurb after just 20 days. If you think about it , if LG fixed your phone it would be called a refurb. You just get yours back though.

Either way, you still have a 1 yr warranty and unlimited exchanges lol

So if I contact LG and tell them of my issue will they replace it for free? Also would it be possible to change the color of the phone? Or do they only replace it to the same model and color. US T-Mobile carrier btw.

Also, I understand that phones, especially androids get warm...WARM.....ive never had a phone that got as hot as my g3.

Or go through your provider.
I am with Verizon and always go through them if I have an issue regardless of manufacturer.
I like their next day shipping on warranty items.

Comparing a 1.6Ghz chip to a 2.5GHz chip is most likely going to give different results. But the thing you have to remember is that with more heat comes a higher need to dissipate that heat. The only way to do that is through surface area, since these phones don't have fans built in. Each manufacturer choses to do this in different ways.

I definitely think there are some quality control issues with LG's G3 in regards to this though, as people have returned phones for over-heating issues. but there are many without this happening.

Wow, that sucks....they'll gladly take your money but pawn you off when there is a problem?
As most know here, I am pretty outspoken and say what I think and in this case T-Mobile would get an earful from me until something was done.
