Android Central Question

I'm getting a bad headache trying to figure out what happened to a picture folder on my (almost) new Huawei p20 lite.

Usually, when installed, Instagram creates two separate albums, one for pictures and one for videos, each named "Instagram".
After accumulating a few hundred pictures and videos from Instagram, I uninstalled the app so I could have more time and less distractions. But when I re-installed the app, I think it overwrote the previous picture folder (not the video folder) because the old pictures are gone and the picture folder is now named "Instagram 1" which means this is the second version of this type of folder, but I can't find the original anywhere, and it seems to be very difficult to find any trace or cache evidence for this old folder. I've looked into the trash bin which saves pictures up to 1 month but it's empty. I've even payed for apps that claim to recover lost files but none of them seem to work. I would be satisfied even if I only find a log or any kind of thumbnail cache from this previous folder.

Should I root the phone in hopes of finding a corrupted/damaged or even a "ghost" folder? I really don't know what to do.

I should say I've recovered very old pictures that were once deleted using a different Android phone, albeit that one was Samsung. Still, it should've worked the same way this time since they both use Android OS, but I can't seem to access anything other than the superficial folder information.

Any ideas are welcome!
