So I decided to go for it and the non-pro P30 in aurora arrived today.

My heart sank when straight out of the box I noticed a small (as in tiny) scratch by the usb-c port so of course I am now procrastinating over whether to return it or not. So it is still sitting in the packing film while I ponder!

I did power it up briefly and one other observation is that the latest 9.1.0.124 firmware is not on there or showing as available so no 3rd party notifications on the AOD yet. I am assuming it will come but a little disappointed it is lagging behind the pro.

Size feels great if ever so slightly bigger than the standard S10

Congratulations!

Sorry to hear about the scratch, yeah, it may be best to return it. I once got a phone that had a few scratches back in the Sony Ericsson days, the phone ended up being a lemon in the long run and 10 months into the contract Sony Ericsson had to give me a new phone after that particular device died and never wanted to boot up again.

Your new P30 could be fine, but is it worth taking the risk?

Yeah it is so tiny I am half considering just keeping it, like a micro scratch that is only visible at certain angles. Have started the return/replacement process with amazon but the replacement will not arrive until Wednesday.

Do let us know how you find the regular model. I took delivery of my Pro today and love it, but last year I returned my P20 Pro for the smaller P20 and loved it. Great size and feel in hand.

Think I've just gotten used to larger phones now though!

Have the P20 Pro and yeah it felt a bit too large/heavy so went with the P20 (Pro relegated to secondary) preferring its size and weight, loving it as well. For some odd reason the Pro does feel a tad faster and smoother though... I'm not a heavy user per se so it's not like we've got a gazillion processes going on at any given time.

I'd be curious to know how the reg P30 stacks up too. Doubting I could find a working display model where I live to try so have to rely on others opinions/experiences. Not sure we'd be inclined to upgrade though since the P20 Series is really satisfying my needs at the moment.

Tough decision. Considering that Amazon's return/replacement process is pretty painless I might be inclined to do so, new and damaged (no matter how small) causes my OCD to flair up LOL... totally different matter if it's "my" fault.

The way Amazon handle the swap process could complicate my Sonos speaker claim though as the replacement is effectively a new order dated 5/04.

Have just noticed that mine has the FPS issue other are reporting (FPS prompt lights up on the screen when the phone is left unattended)

Congratulations on your P30! How exciting! Not fun about your scratch though! Keep us posted on how your return process goes!

I returned it today, a replacement is en-route but I am half considering not opening it and going pro.

I think the P30 is the nicer looking device and appreciate the smaller size but the things Huawei have removed are kind of annoying and make it imo slightly over-priced.

I'm very happy with my P30, and don't like curved screens. 1080 width is fine on the P30, but the Pro looked a little rougher on type to me (short-sighted). The cameras still are pretty good on the P30, and not missing much other than OIS on the main camera for me. The P30 comes with a screen protector, which you feel if you use the swipe navigation, and I have a case that sits a little proud of the screen, so that makes swiping not so smooth. I'm using the three buttons at the moment.

Mine lit up the FPS spontaneously initially, but very rare now, so I'm waiting to see if they change it with an update. It could be the screen protector settling in? It sometimes comes on when you squeeze the case without touching the screen, but it's only low-powered like the AOD, not the full light up for the scan, so virtually no power used.

Have you made a decision about going with the Pro yet, OP?

My non-pro was aurora, very nice too. Honestly I struggled to pick between them.

Replacement non-pro just arrived was curious so had a look and it has a very similar scratch again right by the charging port. Nothing major but not what you would expect out of the box from new.

Cannot be a coincidence, wondering how many others are like this?

Anyway back to the pro......

I'm so sorry you are experiencing this! I'd recommend contacting Huawei customer support. If this is a trend occurring with devices, Huawei should know so they can be on top of fixing it.
