P3Droid Announces to UNPATCH NOW!!!!

I'm a member over there as well and have been following the thread since it started. I also follow him on Twitter, and that is what I was referring to. I've read the thread. I'm referring to the fact that it's hypocritical to write a hack, then when the #$*@ hits the fan, say "well it was up to users to decide it was wrong." This was on Twitter right after he made the post at MDW.

Like I said, I get it, hypocrisy aside. I'm not even saying he wasn't trying to protect the community by telling them to uninstall the hack. I have a lot of respect for P3 - I think you might be misreading my intentions. But I don't want anyone to delude themselves either; by going on and on and ON suddenly about how tethering is theft despite having written this hack conveniently when all this hysteria is coming out, he is also covering his own ass.

I know what he says about the hack and TOS violations. That's why I said in my above post, you either believe in something or you don't. If you believe something is wrong, then you don't do it. Not as proof of concept, not at all. You especially don't do it and then call other people out afterward for using it.

That said, I agree with you - I am sick of people not taking responsibility. We are adults. We choose what we do with our own things, and need to accept the consequences of our actions. If we decide to ignore the warnings and illegally tether anyway, we better shut our mouths when we get hit with the hammer later. Im just saying, that was never my issue. The attitude on Twitter was bothering me.

Mostly, I'm irritated by the panic. Everyone needs to calm down x1000.

Fair enough fellow androidian:-)

By the time we know if carriers are doing anything it will be too late. If you have used it then its done. Only thing left is to "Android-up" and deal with the consequences. I use quite a bit of data any way without tether(no where close to the 150gb mentioned earlier, lol), never good to draw attention to your self.

Well he didn't stay under his rock for long. Seems like his current project is offering test builds to volunteers to update their base bands. Six people so far and they will discuss it soon.

Nice! He's making a comeback!

Yeah I can't quite fathom 150 GB but I've tethered like twice to do my math when my home internet was down. (My university has changed to online math homework) I do think it's probably going to be a problem soon for people who have been completely replacing their home internet with not by-the-book tethering, but people, the rabid fear-mongering has got to quit. It's getting insane.

Like I said, I have respect for P3 and TBH. I'm loving the GB leak. I don't think it was necessarily his intention to stir the pot, but that's what happened. A little while ago when this was all coming out, someone asked him on Twitter why TBH posted a hack for hotspot if he didn't believe in "illegal" tether, and P3 said something to the effect of, "we post things, users have to decide what's right or wrong." I mean...you can't post a recipe for "How to Cook Babies" and then be like "well personally I think that's morally wrong but its totally up to you what you do with it." Now obviously we're all adults and we're all responsible for our own decisions, I just think that in particular is kind of a stupid thing to say. You either believe in what you're doing or you don't.

Personally, every penny out of the carriers' pockets gladdens me-I think we need some serious wireless policy reform in this country. In the meantime though, I do think it would be nifty if the community would band together some and stop running around in circles and screaming.

Just my two cents of the morning...back to class with me!

It would be hilarious if everyone who had teatering cranked it at the same time:) Google and the carriers are going to do what is in their best interest and their interest are $. A LOT of zero's are involved and that's gonna be their baby. I doubt they will punish people for things that they have already done. After their reforms of policy are in play that will be where they get you. I read somewhere earlier that the carriers really don't care if you're rooted, it's what people are doing once they're rooted.

Heres the way I look at it... If Verizon really could see what we all were doing, and was going to be banning people for using unauthorized software, free tethering, etc, then they would have done it already. Until the first contract gets terminated and there is written proof posted, I say thhhhbbbb to all the chicken littles out there.

Thing is its possible for them to tell if your tethering, think about recently when ATT sent out the notifications to people using mywifi. Only ATT said either stop by this date or we will start charging you. From what I gather with Verizon is they are just going to start charging people. No come clean time frame or anything.

You guys raising hell about how freaked P3droid acted, if he would have been like oh hey guys time to stop tethering just apply this patch and your good. People would have blown him off like they have over the past months regarding anything he posts. Freaking out and getting as much attention as possible was the smartest thing ever. Now people really cant say I didnt know about it. Well if you follow TBH and bought the app you should know about it.

And to the OP....I direct you to the sticky at the top of this forum. You might want to remove the link to the TBH app.

Violations of one or more of the following rules will result in an immediate ban of your account:

AC has a zero tolerance policy on such posts.

Hey thanks for the heads up, I will remove it. Just for the record, I've always been a P3Droid fan and appreciate all he's done for our community.

Well after going through P3Droids app again (TEAM BLACKHAT) I find that he's removed the HotSpot hack and has left the Unpatcher in it, so it's NOT in violation of the above said rules.
