P3Droid Announces to UNPATCH NOW!!!!

All this is making SPRINT look pretty good right now. They don't charge you xtra for tethering.

I've been thinking the exact same thing. VZW coverage is second to none where I live though...

Yeah things are pretty crazy right now in the 'droid community, my next phone will definately be a developer phone to avoid these shenanigans.

I am with you bro, definitely dev phone for me next. I have 5 lines with verizon and I'm not signing another contract on any of them.

My phone will remain rooted. Never loaded any patch or anything but I used wireless tether maybe 3 times.

Ditto, my root is not going anywhere anytime soon. I've never used wireless tether or the "patch" everyone's freaking out over. Not using the GB leak either so I have nothing to hide.

For those of you that were using wireless tether as a home Internet source or even XBox live.. Doom, doooom on you lol.

This, a twitter post on P3's says it all,lol....

" HHRLLC @P3Droid Jesus told me to root. What was I supposed to do?"
about 6 hours ago via Twitter for Android

Now how can Big Red argue with the Big Man's own flesh and blood? lol
If our Carrier didnt want us to root, then they wouldn't have designed a phone that could be rooted.

I can't believe people thought d/l 150GB/mo wouldn't garner attention to begin with.

That said, my phone rang with a restricted caller ID so I hit it with a hammer until it ceased ringing :-X

I completely agree vor. Just because it says unlimited doesn't mean you should suck every byte of data you possibly can every month. My first month I did my worst. I wanted to see the speed of the network, and how the connection differed in different areas in my city. Even then I think I hit under 5 gigs...

He isn't trolling. He is expressing concern. If you are stealing data with his NVRAM hack, he is off the hook now. That's all:-) Keep the leaks coming P3Droid, and ignore the ignorant. Pay for tether. He don't care about other forms of data theft. Just his hack. I guess he watches out for his peeps. Now who is trolling?

Then your good! And rooting is good! And GB is good! It is theft that is bad, and anyone that gets down onP3Droid for "having you in mind" while VZW possibly investigates data theft are bent a little don't you think? I for one are glad theft of services are talked among us rooted users, crack down on em! Just leave me to my moding, as I don't care for theft.

I've said before, I get why VZW is cracking down on tethering abusers, but god did P3 change his tune fast when they came after him :p I mean you really can't be like TETHERING IS BAD AND MORALLY WRONG AND YOU SUCK FOR DOING IT BUT BY THE WAY HERE IS A HACK.

I do think at this point they're kind of trying to cover their asses though, and I do get that. I'm not hating on them, I know things have been a little hairy lately. I really do love Team Black Hat and that whole community, and I think some of the Twitter persona we've been seeing lately is a little bit for the benefit of the companies, but still.

Theft is theft. I wont call tether users thieves becase the native OS market harbors these apps and people using them aren't going out of their way much to steal. Your statement in caps demonstrates to me you may want to read the original thread at MDW. In no way does he encourage anyone to use it, and he said explicitly with warnings the TOS violations. I not to say you are, but to many people don't take any responsibility. P3Droid said it's a concept, not a practical app. So please read his thread and quit blaming him.

I'm a member over there as well and have been following the thread since it started. I also follow him on Twitter, and that is what I was referring to. I've read the thread. I'm referring to the fact that it's hypocritical to write a hack, then when the #$*@ hits the fan, say "well it was up to users to decide it was wrong." This was on Twitter right after he made the post at MDW.

Like I said, I get it, hypocrisy aside. I'm not even saying he wasn't trying to protect the community by telling them to uninstall the hack. I have a lot of respect for P3 - I think you might be misreading my intentions. But I don't want anyone to delude themselves either; by going on and on and ON suddenly about how tethering is theft despite having written this hack conveniently when all this hysteria is coming out, he is also covering his own ass.

I know what he says about the hack and TOS violations. That's why I said in my above post, you either believe in something or you don't. If you believe something is wrong, then you don't do it. Not as proof of concept, not at all. You especially don't do it and then call other people out afterward for using it.

That said, I agree with you - I am sick of people not taking responsibility. We are adults. We choose what we do with our own things, and need to accept the consequences of our actions. If we decide to ignore the warnings and illegally tether anyway, we better shut our mouths when we get hit with the hammer later. Im just saying, that was never my issue. The attitude on Twitter was bothering me.

Mostly, I'm irritated by the panic. Everyone needs to calm down x1000.

Well he didn't stay under his rock for long. Seems like his current project is offering test builds to volunteers to update their base bands. Six people so far and they will discuss it soon.

All this panic is just silly anyway. If any of this is true, then Verizon already has a list of people that violated their TOS, so what would be the point of undoing it? So in that case, why unroot and stop tethering? Enjoy it before they cancel your service.

Heres the way I look at it... If Verizon really could see what we all were doing, and was going to be banning people for using unauthorized software, free tethering, etc, then they would have done it already. Until the first contract gets terminated and there is written proof posted, I say thhhhbbbb to all the chicken littles out there.

There are people out there using their phone to tether their Xbox 360's, and PS3's, to play online, not to mention those who use tethering as their main home internet. I've read of people using over 50GB of data in a month. People at verizon are not dumb, I don't even think it's possible to pull that much data in a month from phone usage. If those people aren't getting shut down, none of the rest of us that are using it moderately are going to either.

Also, in some form of small print in our contracts, shouldn't say that we have to agree to be monitored by VZW at that level. I mean if they are able to see what app we download, where we install it, how it runs in the background, when and where we use it isn't that basically recording? Also, I wonder how we could get an infograph of different categories of users. Like those who root, those who root and dont use root apps, those who use Wireless Tether, etc.
