P4 requires unlock when in car

Hello. I need some help. With my P3, I was able to hook up with Bluetooth in the car and make calls or play music without unlocking. Now, with my P4, it requires me to unlock the phone before it initiates a call or when asking to play music. This is with either pressing the assistant button on the steering wheel or "ok Google" I even tried setting the smart Lock to recognize my Bluetooth in the truck but that still requires an initial unlock.

Thanks in advance
Chris

Open your Google app, tap More at the bottom right, then Settings>Google Assistant, tap Assistant, then Phone (under Assistant Devices). Is "Lock screen personal results" turned on?

Brilliant! That worked. Thank you so much.

One other thing, I use to hear a chime when I call the assistant or it would repeat back who I was asking to call. That doesn't work any longer.

Great! Not sure about the chime issue -- do you have other devices you can test Google Assistant on, and if so, does the same thing happen there?

I can hear the assitant through my Bluetooth headphones. I'm not hearing the assistant at all over Bluetooth in my car. Ok Google, squeeze, and/or hitting the button on steering wheel causes the screen to react and engage Assistant, but no audio cues at all. I can visually see the Assistant talking on the pixel, but no audio, just silence.

If I do the same while plugged in through Android auto, I hear the assistant cues.

It was fine with my P3.

Thanks again

Does your car have integrated Android Auto, or are you only listening to it over the Bluetooth connection? If the latter, then you have to make sure the car stereo's source is set to Bluetooth in order to here what Assistant is saying (and presumably the chime as well). Also, on your phone, go to Settings>Bluetooth, tap the gear icon next to the car stereo, and make sure Media Audio is turned on.

Yes, it has integrated AA through the USB connection. I prefer to use the Bluetooth over AA most of the time. Easier to just throw it on the wireless charger or leave in my pocket. Media Auto is toggled on.

If you're connecting only via Bluetooth, then the car stereo has to be set to Bluetooth as the audio source in order to hear anything. If you have the car stereo set to something else (like FM Radio, USB, or CD), you won't hear anything.

It is connected via Bluetooth. It will execute a command such as playing music and making a call, it won't won't let me hear the assistants voice. You can only see what she's thinking on the phone. No audio cues.
Example: "call Chris" no audio from the assistant but if I look at the pixel, it is asking me what Chris to call.
Another example: "call Chris Snith mobile" it will make the call and I will hear the call but there is no audio feedback from the assitant saying "ok calling Chris Smith mobile". My pixel 3 would have the audio feedback.

My apologies if this is anoying and confusing.

Right -- it's connected via Bluetooth, but is the car system's source actually set to Bluetooth? If not, then the audio output from the phone is going to the stereo, but the stereo isn't outputting it since it's not set to the correct source.

Sorry if I'm missing something as well -- when you ask Assistant to play music, does it actually play over the car system?

Another thing is Google smart Lock for trusted places, like Bluetooth see if that helps both unlocking and Bluetooth use

Yes, it plays perfectly. It will play the music I ask or a call I request. It just doesn't give me audio feedback from assistant. She's silent doing her work. Haha.

Hmm. Not sure what to try next. Are you able to test this out in a different car?

I checked in another car. Google assistant is a mute. She performs tasks and lets me make a call and play music...she just doesn't give any audio feedback.

When I hook up to my Bluetooth headphones, all is good. I can hear Google assistant.

Check in language and input under system settings in settings..then virtual keyboard tap >Google voice typing scroll to bottom and last 2 are on or set it off Screenshot_20191216-194044.jpeg
