P6 fingerprint bug?

Having this happen to me now too (6 Pro) ... Was flawless just a few days ago. Now with AOD on it appears as if the FPS is completely unresponsive until I tap to wake.

I'm also having to unlock my phone on the double press of the power button to open the camera ... Which totally defeats this shortcut LoL

Neither of these issues happen when I boot into safe mode and only appears to have surfaced a day or two ago Haven't installed any new apps so I can't help but wonder if one of my apps updated and borked something.

I've had the same issue since day one. the January update made it better......but that's relative.

I've had pixels since day one. this POS is making me rethink this decision

So weird ... After my post above I tried safe mode again and all was good. Rebooted (not safe mode) and now everything is working fine. Go figure

I don't have the link in front of me, but it's called Google Buganizer. That's where we file our bug reports.

When I search for this I get Google Issue Tracker. Is that it? Says it's for internal Google use and for developers who work with Google teams.

Since the update, the FPS on the AOD works for me most of the time, but occasionally it's dead, no flash, no unsuccessful scan, nothing. I'll need to tap away from the FPS to get to the lock screen image.

Not sure what causes that. It's pretty infrequent now, and I don't know how to intentionally reproduce it. It'll just crop up once in awhile.

Got this from reddit which shows the issue. Nobody there had a solution either. The thread was 3 month old btw.

That video is a good example of how NOT to use the Pixel 6 optical fingerprint sensor. You don't quickly touch and then jerk your finger away as quickly as possible. My FPS is slow but reliable if I place my finger on the sensor and then wait a fraction of a second until I feel the haptic confirmation "buzz".

My FPS is reliable on the AOD.

It is showing that in some instances it does not work at all on the lock screen. Even a quick touch should trigger the light to flash trying to read it. The bug is that it shows the fingerprint icon, but it does not work unless/until you use the power button to "wake" the lock screen.

I'm not saying that this isn't a bug that you and others are experiencing. All I'm saying is that the video is a good example of how NOT to use the P6 optical FPS.

I do not have this bug and my FPS works reliably on my locked AOD. I've never needed to use the power button to "wake" the lock screen.

The bug has nothing to do with how one uses the scanner. Its just frozen on the AOD.

*Update* The rebooting into and out of safe mode a few times, seems to fix the problem. But so did a factory reset earlier, but then it reappeared. I'll post if it stops again. But so far the safe mode reboot seems to be a possible fix.

Well it's back. Not a deal breaker, but still annoying. Never had this problem with Samsung. Is there a bug tracker or report site? Thanks

In the video, it's not even registering that a fingerprint has touched the screen. A white light should appear when your fingerprint touches the sensor.

Kinda funny you're suggesting that's not how to use a fingerprint sensor, when the video has a person putting their finger on the sensor. That's exactly how you're supposed to use a fingerprint sensor, it's just that the Pixel's is very slow and in that video, broken.

Not sure which Samsung you had, but the S21 series have the best fingerprint sensors on the market.

I've tried to do a quick search for a Google Issue Tracker thread on the fingerprint sensor for your issue but couldn't find one. There were issue trackers with the fingerprint sensor wiping saved fingerprints when the phone's battery died (yes that was a thing).

when it comes to opening the Pixel 6 you never know what is going to happen. Sometimes the fingerprint target is there, and sometimes not. It's like buying a car and sometimes there is a car door handle and sometimes not.

The January update did very little to improve the finger print reader. Android Central has sold themselves out in their review of the phone and don't even mention the finger print reader in the summary of pros and cons.

The Pixel 6 is a disaster and to me it is 99% because of the fingerprint reader. It is a downgrade from Pixel 5 and before and totally unacceptable. I don't understand how any reputable company would put out such a significant downgrade for such a primary functionality, opening the phone. It works about 2/3's of the time, not more. Let's call a spade, spade. Make me so mad, I am a Google FI customer, which means it makes a lot of sense to own a Google phone. So, really there is no alternative to owning a Pixel 6 in order to stay stock android, get integrated support for Google FI and remain on the Google Pixel platform which I have been since Pixel 2,3 4 and 5 ..but it is a miserable phone and a miserable experience owning it.

It feels like Google doesn't care.

Yet there are many Pixel 6 series users who no longer have fps issues after the January update.
