P9 Specs

As always, a compromise has to be made when trying to hit a specific price point. In this case, NFC was benched.

The cheapest P9 is €599, which is $683, so I don't see why there would be any compromises needed for something that expensive.

True, but wasn't there a price discrepancy in the Moto X Play (I think that was it)? It was cheaper in the US due to certain taxes that didn't apply as they do in Europe.

I'm not sure, but that could be the case. I just Googled and found this, so we're talking about prices similar to those of the Samsung Galaxy S7.

Everytime I think I've found the perfect phone for me, when I look deeper at the specs there are some compromises. To be expected but some of these are strange.

- NFC on single-sim but not on dual-sim versions (can't figure out how they are connected, Samsung and Xiaomi can manage both together)
- Dual-sim: 32GB/3GB version supports less network bands than the 64GB/4GB version (why?)
- Dual-sim 64GB/4GB version on comes in a single colour, Haze Gold! (never been a fan of gold phones)

Also, a couple of questions I hope someone can help with regarding dual-sim:
1. 4G+3G or 4G+2G?
2. What does dual-standby mean compared to dual-active? (from what I've read dual-active means 2 radios so both sims can receive/make calls at the same time but uses more battery life. Dual-standby means can only receive/make calls from 1 sim at a time which is fine with me but what is confusing is can you receive calls and sms on one sim whilst using data on the other sim at the same time?)

Thanks

Just to let you guys know.

The Huawei P9 supports Band 12 on T-Mobile and Band 17 on AT&T, alongside B2 and B4 on both.

Note that only the single-sim variant alongside the 64GB dual-SIM variant supports the above bands. The 32GB dual-SIM variant doesn't.

And while the phone does support some LTE bands used by Sprint, US Cellular and Verizon, it apparently does not work on their CDMA network, so if you're on either of those carriers, this phone is a pass unless Huawei makes a version that works on both GSM and CDMA networks for its upcoming official Stateside launch.
