Package disablers a waste of time?

What are your thoughts on package disabler apps?

Personally i have used them before and my understanding was they could help save battery life so personally that was my reasoning behind installing it! However, i never felt they made a difference to battery life! In fact, i presume the app uses battery to ensure the apps you disabled stay disabled so iam wondering if they may even use more battery then save?

In terms of freeing up ram then yes i see the use for package disabler but again! I cant say i ever noticed much difference in terms of system improvements etc Iam not necessarily implying they are useless and not worth it but rather iam interested in hearing from people that use them and do they find they make a difference and if so then in what way?

If they do aid in saving battery life then its gonna be extremely negligible i reckon!!

Personally I use the Bk Disabler. I Debloated my phone , Freed up ram memory my battery performances perfect.took All of the crap off my phone. Running only the core Samsung and Google apps that I need. Now, the question of the you need a package disable or? Not necessarily I mean with the snapdragon 835 processor and 4 gigs of ram and 64 gigs of internal Flash memory not necessarily but why not uninstall all the crapp and run clean? That's always been my take on it. Now come of course, Samsung's touch wiz interface has been much dial down-and cleaner without a doubt , but there's still unnecessary crap on here plus Verizon crap from the Carrier perspective that I don't need. For example these the Navigator and Verizon caller id that I don't need, nor or want.

Re: Package disablers a waist of time?

I agree somewhat with @eric002. I bought BkDisabler to get rid of the DQA popup, but now that I have it I've used it to remove some of the bloatware, but not all of it, as some I use. Stopping unwanted processes from running does save battery, as does those apps that think they need to call home all the time. I did overdo once and caused an issue for myself, but re-enabling the culprit corrected the mistake.

Thank you very very much for your comments. I appreciate it. Like I said, touch wiz is much dial down so some of it I am using such the email app, the Messaging app and a few other bits and pieces of Samsung. Yes just a background processes but just bloatware it will always exist. But there is something you can-do about it.

Re: Package disablers a waist of time?

I have gone through the app and it shows a list of apps that are using ram (i assume theres not much point in disabling the apps that are NOT using any ram?) The ones that are however, sure its handy to be able to disable them but from what i can see they use very little so disabling them wont make any noticeable difference , likewise with battery! Or am i wrong here! In theory a package disabler is fantastic , in reality however iam not convinced its as beneficial as some people think

Re: Package disablers a waist of time?

I wouldn't use pdp for battery savings, it would be pretty negligible unless you have a misbehaving app.

Some people just like to have more control and disable apps.

In my case, i was able to disable the bixby button and related apps and also the non Verizon sim message. These can't be disabled through the system settings or disabling apps in the app manager.

Some people also disable Knox apps and other apps that they don't want to use

Re: Package disablers a waist of time?

A package disabler can be very useful, however, you need to be very careful with with what you disable. If you are not absolutely sure on what you are disabling it can do more harm than good. It can even increase battery drain if you disable the wrong things.

Good point and when I use my packages disabler to disable useless background running apps I know which processes to look out for a. That being said I love cleaning up my phone, and again killing off useless apps.

Re: Package disablers a waist of time?

But if battery savings are going to be negligible then why use it? I mean why not just NOT use the apps! Same as disabling them really!! For example disabling bixby is stops you from using bixby so in affect its the same as NOT using it!! My own reasoning personally would be to save a few % battery perhaps but running package disabler must also use battery so i guess ultimately iam trying to figure out if the app uses more battery then it saves you??

Re: Package disablers a waist of time?

Ironically I also disable Bixby. Sure you can Just choose not to use the application at all. But still using memory and ram memory and a little bit of battery. Is it negligible? Probably at the end of the day it is but I like to be safer than not.

Re: Package disablers a waist of time?

Does anyone have a list of whats safe to disable? Hard to know what to disable! Ant radio services for example are seemingly important for the use of some apps as is beaming services or so i have read where as i would have just disabled them had i not known! Anyone have a reliable list??

That's what I've disabled. Hopefully that helps you out a little bit and give you some insight.

Disabling Bixby will also disable the bixby key which is why i disabled it...due to accidentally engaging bixby through accidentally pressing the button.

It is certainly an advanced tool. I don't recommend it to people unless they like tinkering or if they have specific needs that warrant using it.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. I do consider myself an expert android user. Look very carefully at what to disable and what to leave alone. Disabling Bixby was not only convenient but very useful. Not only is it half baked but I love my Google now cards page.

Re: Package disablers a waist of time?

Does anyone know if i disable 'galaxy apps' will that affect the theme store? also samsung mirrorlink and samsung push services? are these safe to disable?

oh and smartcardservice?

It just makes it harder to get to the Galaxy app store I will admit that. I don't wanna leave it running, so whenever I need it I enable it and then whenever I don't need it or I'm finished with-it I disable it. I just consider it a bloat Ware app over all. I use it for what I need and then turn off. That is the point of a disabler.

I use PDP primarily to prevent apps that I don't use from phoning home anyway. I also like to disable the Verizon bloatware that allows them to monitor just what I have on my device, and I like being able to stop OS updates should I choose. It's also the only way to prevent some of the preloaded Amazon and Google stuff from running or restarting itself after an app update if I had it disabled in the Application Manager.

Oh absolutely I completely agree. like I said, for me disabling All of the Verizon crap apps,And a few of the Samsung Galaxy crap apps but not all of them makes the phone run wonders.

I think it's a good app for those who want to disable tons of stuff.

Personally.. I just disabled 3 Verizon apps (through the regular settings menu) and I'm good. I am way too lazy to disable tons and tons of stuff and don't see a real big need.
