Painfully slow internet download

In just got a Nook Color with intent of installing Android Gingerbread or Honeycomb..(my phn is an EVO) I had a guy install Gingerbread on an SD card and seems to work fine..but either drops connections on the Internet or is very slow most of the time. The icon shows a good or better signal..I have no problem with my other devices on the same wifi signal, including my EVO, PS3,two computers, etc....In fact, the Nook seems to run fine on the wifi, when I run it in "Nook mode"...The Nook is really slow when I try to connect through the wifi hotspot (4g) on my phone and makes it virtually useless.

Everything else seems to work fine... could I have the wrong "build" for the Nook version 1.2?

All help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

What kind of card are you using? I had CM7 on a cheap PNY card originally and everything crawled, especially downloads. I switched to a SanDisk class 4 card, and it works great now, dowloads app updates in seconds (was 15-20 minutes--yes, minutes).
