For all you people out there still having trouble rooting your Incredible's look no further cause the unrevoked team just released the newest version of their reflash tool and it now includes painless root! :D

unrevoked

Just click on the Incredible and it takes you to the download.

I wish I waited a few days to root, cause I spent all of Saturday night trying to get it!

I think this was posted in the EVO section already, but I wanted to share it with my fellow Incredibles.

Yeah that's really good news to the people who couldn't get it done! And to think back in my rooting days I had to root up hill both ways in the snow for a nickel an hour.....

is there a walkthru or something to go with this? I keep hanging at "waiting to reboot" even though the phone did reboot...

and there is the reason I would rather not root the phone... something like this comes up that is claiming it is painless, and it does not work for me, so I get told to go read something... I don't know where to start, being new to android and rooting, all of the reading I have done is basically Greek...

I kept hanging at one point as well. It rebooted and while the phone ended up in Clockwork Recovery the reflash program said it lost communication. At that point I just started with the manual instructions found elsewhere in the forum and pushed the files over and gave myself persistent root so even though the Unrevoked Flash didn't completely work for me it did get me far enough to finish the job myself.

You guys should head over to XDA for more help.

That's the android development section for the DINC. This forum section of android central is basically dead... There will be much more help for you over there.

As far as the hanging goes for now however, the unrevoked team were pushed to release reflash+root ASAP. Following the outcome of the quick release are these sort of bugs but, they are releasing bug fixes ASAP as well.

For those that have used this, I am lost. How long should it sit at waiting for bootloader? I launched the program, it rebooted my phone and just sits at the recovery screen. Should I choose recovery and hit power or is this process totally automated? And yes I deleted HTC sync and installed the reccomended drivers.

after reading around, I guess this is not the painless/one stop shop for root like I thought it was... with kids running around and no real time to focus on rooting, I will just wait until a real one stop shop for rooting comes available or until someone who knows what they are talking about can write a seriously detailed method of doing this.... thanks to unrevoked for the program though.

This program is awesome, I got root now thanks to this. Nice and easy.

I do have some questions now.

1. Where is wireless tether, should that be an option now or is that something I have to install from somewhere?
EDIT: ok, so I found the app for tethering.

2. Can anyone recommend any good terminal apps?

It is/was completely 100% painless for me to use their new tool. You just have to stop and read about the USB drivers, but other than that it was almost brainless.

Ok, I installed it and it said done and then I rebooted the phone. Now what? LOL!

Make sure it worked. Go to the market and download an app that requires root to use. Maybe drocap2 for screen captures or IncrediLight. If you were successfully rooted, when you go to use the app it will ask you to grant superuser access.

should there not also be a app under all applications called "Superuser Permissions"??

You sound confused and frustrated yet not willing to try and figure things out. You need to learn some of the basics to begin even thinking of rooting. Maybe this will help you, even though some of it is pointless now that this tool was released.

not that I don't want to read, I just don't have the time to commit to this if I have to jump threw a lot of hoops... thanks for the help though!
