Noticed this on my week old Z Fold 7. It was never dropped or anything at all.

Quite the mystery. Because the spine of the hinge is actually higher than the edge there. Something to have chipped off quite an area without touching the spine seems unlikely. Could be QC. Will be interesting to see if there are other examples to point to QC.
 
Does it taste like lead? (Don't taste obviously).

I doubt it looking at it from a small screen but is that real carbon fiber or a fake finish? If it were real any any of the fibers are exposed the certainly could wear away at it.
 
Can you try wiping it with your fingernail to see if it comes off? Because, by the picture, it doesn't look like the aluminum is underneath the blue paint.

Doing that doesn't remove it. I also tried an alcohol wipe, and that doesn't do anything.
