I just got the Pixel 9 Pro XL. A case I purchased didn't fit it properly and when I pulled it off, my screen protector on the camera bump cracked and somehow nicked the paint around the bump. The nick is really bothering me. Does anyone know how or where I can repair it (or how I can do it myself)?.

I can't take a screenshot of the physical damage. It's a paint chip scratch under the right corner of the camera bump. This is about where the scratch is.

It might be helpful to know what case was so misshapen and tight that is cracked your screen protector and caused damage to your phone when you removed it. Others might be able to avoid a similar situation if they knew the brand and potential risk using it.

It looks like the camera protector was the problem. I've never considered camera protectors because I wouldn't want distortions in my photos.

I have something similar with the official Google case. I have a similar thing in one location on the front also. Both very small, but once you see it you can't un-see it.

I don't see any distortion in my photos. :)
Same. As long as you get one with halfway decent glass and no weird layers, it causes very little distortion, ever, IME (same as if you put a good clear filter on a SLR lens, or similar)

Anyone have any ideas how to fix / repair the paint?
I'd get a case that covers it! I personally have this Ringke case and it covers the bar with the camera cutouts. Not sure if there's any other cases with the same coverage but this case was pretty affordable. Screenshot_20241215-171307.jpg

I looked at the Ringke case...if you don't intend to use a camera screen protector that looks good. I'm not sure how it would fit if you did have one...with the protection on the right side and that it looks like it might lift a protector on the left side. I would still be afraid of the amount of exposed glass that could/will eventually get scratched. We'll see...but I went with an Otterbox Commuter case and a metal/glass camera screen protector. I don't notice any of the notable distortions that some others have experienced...admittedly, at least in 12MP mode my photos aren't any better than recent competitors (iPhone, older Pixels, Samsung, etc.).

That case doesn't look high risk at all...and looks like it protects that area just like the Ringke and others do. What screen protector did you have on...did it only go on the glass, or was it the kind that covers the whole camera island, including the sides? Did a piece of sand or something get in between the screen protector or case, and the camera? A plastic/TPU/Rubber case shouldn't scratch anything.
