Parental controls app for tablet - any recommendations since my kids want this tablet for christmas

Hi. I talked my kids into wanting the note 10.1 over an ipad but since they are still young I want to be able to control what they can do. Anyone have experience running one of the parent control apps on this tablet? Most of the reviews are based on phones so I'm looking for some direct tablet experience.

These will be our family's first android tablets although I have a galaxy phone. Am I correct that some of the android apps only run on phones so we need tablet specific apps?
