Passcode protected excel file vs password app

I am moving from iOS and have an extensive list of pass codes in an app on my iPhone. The only export options are to an excel file.
Does anyone simply passcode protect an excel file and keep in Dropbox etc for their credential storage needs? I am curious how strong the passcode prtection in a file really is.

I wouldn't have it any other way.
