Flash a custom rom on that suckah....

If you're experiencing problems, try doing something to aleviate it. I'm not saying installing custom software is gonna fix it but at least you tried.
I have a custom rom on my phone, and have never experienced what you're going through. You probably tell me but the phone should just work without doing all that flashing rom mumbo jumbo and you're right it should. But in your case it isn't so whats the harm?
The harm may be you break (brick) your phone, but if you read up and follow instructions this phone is real near impossible to brick.
I am not saying you should do it, just offering a possible solution if you so choose.

Are you kidding me? Being flamed for not unlocking/rooting/flashing? What has Android Central come to? I guess I'm used to rootzwiki and XDA but a person would get "flamed" for NOT unlocking/rooting/flashing there! Wow.

I've never seen so much complaining about this device before. When the phone first came out there was some complaining about data issues (I know a few had legitimate and documented radio hardware failure) but almost all of what you guys are complaining about just doesn't exist in the circles I'm used to hanging out in. Again, there's some scattered legitimate hardware defects out there, but most of what you guys are complaining about was fixed a long time ago.

I find it funny that a phone that cost so much cant run well out of the box. So according to some people here I have to root and do all this techi stuff just so the phone will operate they way I was expecting it to when I walked out of the store. Thats pretty sad. Anyway, It did feel good to smash it against the wall and felt even better when it wasn't damaged. The signal is the same with or without the Otter Box and the phone is behaving other than a few minor issues (auto rotate doesn't always respond and camera freezes up). I came from a DroidX and then a DroidX2. I was given so many replacements because of all the issues that plagued those phones so I'm sure most of you could understand my frustration when this GN stating acting up on me.

iPhone = outdated design, being an Apple product

That being said, your bolded assertion is incorrect. When you flash, you don't make it run as you expect it. You make it run far better than you could have ever imagined. Big difference.

Do you even know what the Nexus line of phones are? Let me clue you in. They are Google's test phones. They use the Nexus to develope and test new versions of the Android Operating System. This is why they are pure Google and have no manufacturing skins on them (Sense, Touchwiz, Motoblur). Its a development phone. If you wanted a polished and more stable experience, you should have gotten a different phone. Again, Nexus phones are marketed as "open" phones. They are meant to be developed on and tinkerer with. Period. What's sad is that you had no idea what you were buying. Better spend some time researching next time before you buy. You talk about patience. Well, I have no patience for people who complain about a product they don't understand.

When I got the phone I was so excited that I ripped all the stickers off GN without reading, I should have read the warning: Don't use this phone until you unlock it, root, flash unofficial 4.0.4, and rom either chewy bear or cm-hourly.
I must have missed that part of the live feed presentation where Google introduced a ghosting and dim screen feature.

Since you typically only hear from people that have issues, I want to say that I have never experienced any of those symptoms. My phone has never not been able to make a phone call, I've never had a screach, and I don't see any problems with my screen.

I've seen commercials touting it as "open" and labeling it the "pure Google experience". The fact that the box it came in was completely white and blank....open....pure. The fact it has no skin on it and that there is zero Verizon bloatware.

You sound bitter. Seems like another example of somebody who doesn't know what they bought and spent zero time learning or researching the expensive product they bought. You have nobody to blame but yourself. I and many others have NONE of the problems you seem to be experiencing. I'm not saying the phone is perfect. I do know there have been scattered but documented hardware problems. From what I've read, the newer revisions have fixed these issues; however, the majority of your complaints and others expressed in this thread are software issues which have been taken care of through development.

1. It has VZ software on it
2. I ran unlocked, rooted and flashed 4.0.4 - no difference in poor signal strength, screeching sound during calls and mic cutting out.
3. The only commercial I've seen was all about Google+ and nothing about openness and ability of unlocking and rooting. In fact doing so voids the warranty so why would Verizon advertise those activities?
4. I'm only bitter because I really did wait for this damn phone and watched live presentation in the middle of the night and drooled over every little feature and every little curve.
In the end I returned my 4th sample and got Razr Maxx and it runs circles around GN except for the screen size.

I love my GN, but can no longer recommend it to my non-geek friends. As much as it kills me, I tell them to buy an Iphone. They do not want to hear the word ?Root?.

The "development" comes from Google and comes from 3rd party developers. What version of icecream sandwich are you currently running? Up until recently, I had been running 4.0.3 which was source released by Google...not Verizon. Now I am running 4.0.4 which is source released by Google. This is the whole reason why I got the Nexus....so I don't have to wait on Verizon. Then there's the Dev community who tweaks, customizes, and improves the code way beyond the scope of Google themselves. Again, the reason why I bought this phone. If i can help it, I will never own a non-nexus phone ever again.

As for promotion, what are you talking about? There was virtually no promotion. I've seen a commercial or two where Verizon touted the Google experience. That's it. Verizon doesn't make money on Nexus phones. No company does. Verizon makes money off of their bloatware. The Nexus doesn't have any. There's the NFL app. That's it. If you don't believe me, read up on it. This is the way it is with Nexus phones. Its Google's phone. The only one they use to test and create Android on.

I for one will like to say this is my 4th android device, and the first one I have felt no need to root. I'm sitting pretty with my never-rooted but unlocked stock 4.0.4 Galaxy Nexus. I've had a Hero, which I needed to Overclock to run... however, it did run CM7, which was pretty impressive. Samsung Epic 4G, which needed to be hacked to run EXT4 to run at any decent speed, overclock also helped. Thunderbolt needed root/ROM so it wouldn't reboot all the damn time... and so you could flash a ROM based on one of the many Gingerbread leaks that never made it to prime-time.
This is the first phone I haven't molested. It just works. I unlocked the bootloader on day 1, and when 4.0.4 came out with the radios, I flashed that using fastboot commands and all has been perfect since. I love my developer phone. I use it as everyday phone and to develop my apps on.

You are 100% correct. I had been waiting for months for the GN. I was frustrated when it was delayed, and I had mine the morning they were available. I have no problem rooting, hacking, or with instability.

However, I think you are missing my point. If you walked into the Verizon store as a newb, what phone would you buy? There are only a few that make sense: Iphone, Galaxy Nexus, Razor Maxx....Rezound??? hmmm. Honestly, which would you buy if you were not a techie?

Since Verizon expects to add 300,000+ subscribers a month, and at least 50% are buying smart phones, there are 100,000+ GN being shipped per month.

So the idea that the GN is a phone targeted at only the most technical savy is not correct.

My frustration is that I still do not have any official updates for my "Developer" phone to address long known issues, or add enhancements that I expect as a "Nexus" user. To make matters worse, I don't have simple things like a desktop dock, and Multi-media interface that were promised when I bought the device.

In my opinion, unless Samsung/Google do something soon to dramatically improve the usability/stability of the GN and Android in general, Iphone is going to begin taking market share by appealing to users who just want their phone to work!

The term "smart phone" implies it is a phone that does more than just make phone calls. If it fails at its basic and most fundamental task than the "phone" is a failure. Let me put it like this....if your new car breaks down all the time but has a kickin stereo system do you hang your hat on the bonus features skipping over the basic need for the car?

Sometimes you get lemons. I tried a bb storm multiple times and it was a fail phone for me but others had no issues. Sometimes it is just poor luck.

Not trying to argue, but the iPhone doesn't "just work" either. There is no perfect device. There are issues with every device. Some more than others, but hey... in the end we just have to be happy with OUR OWN device. My own device is the GN, and I love it. Did I have to tweak it to get it where I want it? Yeah. But I had to do that for EVERY other smartphone I've owned, and I'm okay with that.
