Payment plan or 2 year contract price?

Hey guys trying to help my mom with her new phone decision. She upgraded to a Galaxy S6 today. She originally was going to go with the 2 year pricing at 299 and 50 mail in rebate.

Apparently the guy talked her into doing the device payment plan and pay the phone out over 24 months. I'm rather confused now..... Isn't she now paying the phone at full price over 24 months? It would really seem cheaper to have paid the 2 year price all at once today?

I was going to go with her tomorrow to see if they'd do a return or let her actually do the 2 year pricing instead if possible but I want to make sure I'm thinking right.

When I called, they said something about a $15 discount for her bill since she's on a 4gb plan or less and that would basically make her phone cheaper in the long run?

These new plans are rather confusing. Sorry if this has been covered. Thanks!

What plan is your mom on? If on share everything or more everything then a $15/mo off contract discount applies for the 4gb data tier . So if you go on contract then you will have to pay $15 more per month or $360 over 2 years.

You mentioned $250ar,which would indicate the 64gb s6,which is $476 on dpp after the upgrade coupon, assuming it was applied . So basically the price difference between contract and dpp is $226, so going on dpp would be more advantageous in this situation, saving $134 over contract price, over 2 years.

I'll check to make sure which plan she's on. I just was thinking she was paying full retail for the phone when she could have paid 2 year pricing.

So with the discount of the dpp, you're basically saying that route is actually the better option?

She receives a 25% discount on her plan from her work. The guy told her her bill would be going up only $4/month with the new payment plan. It seems every time we upgrade, Verizon had a new plan that is just confusing.

One of the bigger advantages of dpp is she can buy out her phone payments at any time without having to stay on a given plan. It's also easier to shuffle data plans around if your needs change because the plans are not what's under contract.

You can change the data plan, voice or text plans at any time even when on contract. Heck I can move to the current Verizon plan even though most of my lines are on contract. Of course I would lose unlimited data so...

It is true though that you can buyout the contract.
