PC will not acknowledge phone when using USB cable.

I did not see another thread that reviewed this particular problem.

I have not had a need to connect my Optimus S to my PC until now.
Connected it with the supplied USB cable. It charges, but my PC will not acknowledge it is hooked up when phone is on.
If phone is off, it is listed in My Computer, but when I click on it (Removable Drive), it says "please insert a disk into driver" and it will not access my phone/SD card.
I had downloaded a driver, but if the PC will not even acknowledge that it is connected, a driver is not going to work.

Am I missing something?

USB

When you plug the USB cable into the phone and PC you have to select Turn on USB storage on the screen that pops up. Then select OK and it will mount as mass storage on the PC. If it doesn't pop up when you connect the USB cable does it say USB connected or ADB when you pull down the status bar?







You only need the driver if you intend to tether over USB or use ADB.

I used to have this problem, you just need to install the right drivers


follow these directions and you should be good.
