People edge problem

Recently people edge has developed this is problem. It started one day when it was suddenly empty, and my favorites had disappeared from contacts. Added them back ok, but people edge will not keep any contact added to it. I go to edit it, but as I populate it with contacts, the first one I added will float off and back into the contact list, and then the next, and so on till it is empty again. If I add one and then quickly close the editing screen, if I open the people edge the contact will be there and then immediately disappear.
