I must be missingvsomethingbin my settings on my VS990 Verizon LG V10.
It does not allow me to change the ringtone on a per contact basis. I would like to download ringtones from Zedge and assign them to my family members.
Settings>Sound & Notification>Ringtone ID is set to ON.
"Compose ringtones for" is set to "Contacts"
But when I edit a contact, I cannot set the Ringtone.
Any ideas where I may have missed something in the settings?

Took me a while, but I switched off Ringtone ID. That allowed me to set a per contact ringtone.

Thank you, sir! I will give that a try. Seems rather counter-intuitive, though, doesn't it?

What's the perk of the phone automatically assigning caller ID and a tone?

Suppose the concept is that individual ringtones will automatically be created for each contact. I never noticed the difference though. Guess my ears are not that sensitive. Usually only set custom ringtones for a handful of contacts..so the benefits (time & differentiation) are lost on me

I set up individual notifications via Google Contact edits. Worked great on my Samsung S5. I find it to be intermittent with my V10. In fact, it will utilize the custom notification for an active text thread, and while I'm still in the same thread a new message from that same contact will trigger the default notification. Very strange and random behavior.
