Performance issue on Stupid Fast Kernel 12-15-2010 DJ05

Morning all!!

Is it normal to have this slow of speed using the Stupid Fast Kernel? I think I had more speed with the Voodoo kernel that I was using before....any thoughts? The rest of my installs is as follows.

When running the Benchmark it seems to get hung up on I/O File system writes.

you can't use benchmark to actually tell how "fast" your phone is. if you run a voodoo lagfix you will see double that in benchmark speeds. but you most likely will not notice an actual difference in how the phone runs.

but don't run voodoo if you aren't really familiar with it. quadrant scores mean nothing. how does the phone feel? does it feel slow? i have run stupid fast kernels and they work really well. i just happen to like voodoo. but it can be really tempermental.

of course you saw faster quadrant scores with voodoo, because that is what the lagfix does. it patches the lag in the rfs read/write (i think).

but most people, me included, cannot actually physically notice the lag.

Whew! Thanks guys, it feels fast and zippy to me, so I'm not going to worry about it, Voodoo was a nightmare to uninstall..... so I think I will stick with the Stupid Fast Kernel! Plus the name is just awesome and describes it well.

Voodoo is for people that really need the faster read/write for heavy rss feeds and the like.

Stupid Fast offers better (faster) real world operation on the phone (in my opinion). The battery life is really good too.

There is nothing wrong with voodoo for the people who really need it but it can be a serious hassle if you don't need it and find yourself installing/uninstalling all the time in order to try different kernels and roms. For me, I think voodoo is more trouble than what it's worth. I think many people install purely to have the faster quadrant score or because they are misinformed (like I used to be) and think they really need it.

In my opinion, both. Voodoo speeds things up read/write wise mainly. Now, granted, I haven't kept up on the latest releases of Voodoo so maybe the newer ones are better and offer better performance in other areas; however, from what I've read, voodoo is mainly a fix for read/write lag. When I was using Voodoo, I still felt I had slight lag in areas such as multitasking, opening/closing apps, etc. It's been my observation that stupid fast kernels perform better just all around on the phone seeming to give better real world performance. Again, just my humble opinion.

To each his own, I see a little more lag without voodoo. To be fair, I haven't run any of geeknik's stuff. I kind of doubt he knows something jt doesn't, but I'm talking ot of my ass. I'm not a programmer, linux could be a breakfast cereal for all I know.

i definitely have to say that with voodoo i had noticeable lag - not a lot, but definitely noticeable - just opening apps and such. with stupidfast and blackhole this phone f*in flies. no lag at all. i dont do a lot of read/write intensive stuff, so i would definitely recommend stupidfast to those who don't need voodoo.

I'm going to try it later, by tomorrow for sure. If anybody else tries it post your results here.

Been running 12.17.10 since last night. So far, so good. I haven't had any issues with it. Battery performance is good. Seems very snappy. I didn't have any lockups with 12.15.10 but I did notice my wifi going in and out on 12-15.10. So far, wifi has been fine.

I believe kernels are the biggest factor to instability so I never run test versions. I've always had great success with the newest stable versions of geekniks StupidFast. He said originally he developed the kernel based on voodoo w/o any overclocking so they are very comparable. Battery life has been considerably better as well. I'll never use any other.

I went back to 1.54. I was experiencing wifi connectivity issues on 12-15 and on 12-17. With 12-19, I couldn't get a GPS lock. I'm gonna stay with 1.54 until these things get ironed out.

I had good performance with the late November/early December test Kernels, but like you I had trouble with the ones starting around mid December and rolled back to 1.54. Not as good as the first ones I ran, but a solid improvement over stock.

I've gotten excellent GPS results today. Accuracy under 20ft within seconds on a cold start.

There's a couple guys at xda reporting GPS issues as well. Could be combination of kernel problems and running other software or the rom I'm using. I don't know. All I know is that going back to 1.54 fixed it.
