what are the benefits? im currently using ios but plan on switching to one.

Actually... ability to use any app store or downloaded *.apk file.

Mmm... no. Android requires some knowledge. It's easy to learn the basics, but things get more complicated if you need more. For non tech-savvy users iOS is very user friendly, but in exchange of limited functionality.

For me Android is better than iOS because for instance you are not force to use some Apple softwares with your phone, and keep the master of it. I mean there is no need to iTunes or something else. You can handle your device just like a USB key, and interface is better that way ...

You're right. I left out "any app store or download *app file" since that part is not as easy for a new user.

My favorite part of Android is choice. You don't have to buy your device from one particular company. You can get a low-end, mid-range, high-end device from like 20+ different companies.
