What purpose does the personal dictionary serve on the default Samsung keyboard?

I was hoping it would allow you to setup user shortcuts like some of the aftermarket keyboard apps do.

For example, if i type tx it would enter Thank you,

I entered several of these shortcuts into the personal dictionary but they don't seem to work.

Can this be done with the default keyboard?

Thanks

I'm wondering the same thing. my phrases aren't popping up. hope we can find something. one of the features i miss about iphone. so far.

I just purchased the Galaxy S4 and I am using the default keyboard and encountering the same problem. Anyone discover a fix for this?

i don't think the personal dictionary are "shortcuts". i think they're just literally a dictionary for additional words you use so they can recommend it or allow it to pass through without a typo. Example would be you always signoff with a friend as "TY". It may mean anything "thank you", "Ted Yearly"...etc etc. So if you add "TY" to the dicationary, the keyboard won't think it's a typo.

Im also using Samsung 4 I think its a broken program. why would it allow for shortcuts to our words ? In using Kii Keyboard in addition to my Samsung keyboard on my Samsung GalaxySo I can keep Handwriting function very annoying

update, it is working but not the way I would like when I type in my shortcut u-you (you) is one of the pop up recommended words. I then must select the word you on it will still be u in my sentence

If you want a keyboard that supports shortcuts, check SlideIT.
