Personal Preference: Which keypad do you use? (Android, Samsung, or Swype?)

Came from the iphone..."in which i do not encourage anyone to own"
Using the swype board.... easy to use.... can use it as regular text or utilize the swype feature... just have to get use to the symbol placement

Same here.

The Swype SEEMS faster, but without auto correction and with words that end in double letters, etc., I'm not sure it actually is.

I switched to Android and am basically using the voice input whenever possible. That seems the fastest.

double letters are created on swype by making a loop with your finger over that letter... pretty easy after you do it a couple of times

I love Swype. It seems to read my mind. There are times when I get "lost" in my swype and think "no way it will get this one!" and then somehow "perpendicular" is there! lol

I came from a world of the 3 previous smart phones I owned had physical keyboards so I have zero experience typing on a screen (other than on my nook). On the second day of using swype I challenged my friend on his iPhone (he has used one for 3 years) to type "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog." I beat him and with only one mistake (fox was fix).

I sometimes wish I could swype my laptop keyboard. :)

Thanks for the tip. I still am not convinced I can type faster on swype than I can on a standard keyboard, and I really like using the voice input most of all.

So far I don't really like any of them. My brain doesn't work with Swype (can't seem to find letters) and I want to use two hands anyway.

The other keyboards don't auto-correct very well for me (used to the iPhone auto-correct). But I'm swapping back and forth between the Samsung and Android keyboards to see if I can get used to one.

Cool that there are others in the market as well. If I can't get used to one of the built-in ones, I'll try out one of the others.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned SwiftKey Beta yet.

I've been using it for about a week and I'm really starting to like it. I like that it's learning the word-isms I use, and how I punctuate things...

I do wish it would incorporate the arrow keys somewhere though...

Swype has been proven to be the fastest texting option

Swype user sets Guinness World Record for texting speed

Sure it has as learning curve but once you figure it out you will not ever go back to regular typing.

Watch the tutorials to learn it and give swype a chance for a week or 2 and I guarantee you will get the hang of it.

I like many others were skeptical at first but I'm now a full fledged Swype addict. I couldn't have a smartphone without it.

I switched over to the Android Keyboard myself from Samsung and Swype. Dont get me wrong Swype is awesome but I like the autocorrection and voice dictation of the android!

Cheers,
Charlie

I like the Samsung keyboard even better now that I found where to turn on the auto-correction!

Ditto. I was using swype for a while, until it started pissing me off for short words (I like typing as fast as possible, and I always had to correct stupid words after finishing). After I turned on the samsung keyboard, its auto-correction feature, and realized it had multi-touch - well yeah, I've been on that one. It's a fantastic keyboard.

Is the auto-correction you're talking about the XT9 support?

I use the Samsung Keyboard, but I noticed the auto-correct sucks. So I went to Android, and then I hated it. Lol. I went back to Samsung and played with the settings and found XT9. I figured everything out, and have everything good, except one thing.

Any way for the bar whenever you type that displays the auto-correct words to be gone? I don't like it there.

Actually, no. Any way to get my keyboard as close to the iPhone keyboard?

EDIT: Also, what does Keypad Sweeping do under Settings for the Samsung one?

I have been using the Swype for the last couple of days and I love it. It does make you think a bit more, but it's fast.

Disable keyboard tapping sound

Is there a way to disable the tapping sound on the samsung keyboard? That is the only reason (besides voice input) I use the Android keyboard instead.

Also, what does the "Keypad Sweeping" setting do?
