Personalized text tones

Is there a way to add personalized tones for the stock messanger? I know how to do ring tones but they do not work for texts. If there is no way is there a different app to use?

I don't know of any app that will do it, but there may be. Either wait for someone who knows of one to answer, or start installing free messaging apps. (You might find one that has individualized tones as a paid feature.)

I have a Galaxy S5 and I have Go SMS for my messaging and it will let you add separate tones for calls and texts. After you install the app, open messages, not with old messaging icon, but use the Go SMS icon. Top left there is the menu with lines. Inside there at bottom is settings. Or you can open each contact, click the pencil to edit, go down to the bottom and click add more fields. There you can customize the info for each contact.
