When I used my old phone (HTC Wildfire S) there used to be an option called "Personalized Recognition" for google's voice search. I can't seem to find it on the HTC one. Any ideas how can I enable it? I'm having troubles getting the phone to recognize some of the words.

In Google Now > Settings > Voice > Select "Personalized Recognition"

It's a no-carrier phone.
Android version 4.1.2
Software number 1.29.708.16
HTC SDK API level: 5.12

It looks like I have a few more options (including the one you are looking for) in my Google Voice settings menu. I have Sprint for a carrier, Android version 4.1.2, software version 1.31.651.2 and HTC SDK API level 5.12.
