how often do most folks change ROMs? and why change ROMs of you found a good one

Easy answer: To try new stuff.

Hard answer: Because....

How often depends on you. I switch up every two weeks or so from one ROM to a completely different one, or sooner if there's one out there I really want to try. I think my personal record was being on a ROM for about 6 hours on my Incredible...it was a Warm Z ROM and I kept getting random reboots and since I was traveling and needed my phone I had no choice but to restore my Nandroid.

I also am a big believer in clean flashes...that is, when a dev has an update to their ROM I do a clean install of that ROM rather than "flash over" or "dirty flash". I've found dirty flashing can generate more problems than it's worth.

Why do we do it? Exactly what Mr. Smith said...because we can. Besides it's fun :D

Remember, if you try a ROM and it doesn't work for you or you just liked another ROM better you can always restore your Nandroid and it will restore that ROM back exactly as you left it when you made the Nandroid.

One last point is that the constant flashing of ROMs really makes you evaluate what you can and can't live with/without on your phone. Having to setup 900 apps or restart 30 games is a pain. Trust me, if you go at flashing for a while, apps start to become extra weight.

Well i have been downloading the specified files in MrSmith's guide to rooting so i can get things started, so it looks like i just might try this root thing........ after i just got my phone settled in again.............man, i hate you guys, lovingly of course :p

Totally agree with this. I've pared down my apps only to what is 100% necessary and as it turns out, it's not all that much!

Peer pressure, fickleness and the endless search for happiness.

THIS

mostly the endless happiness part.

I change ROMs a lot because the grass is always greener and you never know until you try. I do have a habit though of ending up back where I started (Flash TM PKman, love it, wait a month, flash Rezrom, keep it for a week, flash back to PKMAN, ooooh something new?, flash it, hate it, go back to PKMAN, wash, rinse, repeat.

I did this endlessly with my fascinate, as much as possible with my Charge (not as many ROMs) and now with the ReZzie.

I cannot see me ever not doing it.

If things stagnate, then I start flashing mods for fun, that and themes.

Come on man...try the new team PKMN ROM...it'll make you feel good. I can quit whenever I want. I don't have a problem.

See there's the peer pressure. LOL. Funny you said that I'd seen talk of it and finally checked out the collabo last night on TeamBamf.net. Looks really slick, I may partake in some Pikachu infused madness this weekend.

it is good stuff been running it for a few versions now. I paired that up with the real icons theme and love the way it looks.

I have to actually finish setting up my phone since the last flash

I've dug what BAMF has done for the Rezound from the get go. Solid stuff, never really encounter much to nitpick about from that crew.

they do good work from what I have seen all over the place. This is the first time I got to use their stuff (well directly, I used a ROM that was from one of the devs but not a team effort).

I tried a bunch early but I've been stalled on the same for well over month, now. So I've been out of the loop of late. Just wanted to hold off until the a few S4(s) were near 100% functionality. Didn't think that would happen as quick as it has. Since you've been on tear flashing since you picked up this most wonderful piece of hardware. What have been been your pack leaders?(*]

(*)= Anyone else wanna add their own "Top 3 list", first to current please do. I wanted to start a thread/poll on this awhile back but I didn't wanna slight any dev whose rom(s) went unmentioned. They all put alotta time in to make customs.

ok that is sorta easy

1. Venasaur ROM--Kinda in a landslide. too many options for customization, no hiccups that I can really find that aren't in some others (ICS base related IMHO)

2. RezROM S4 v2.4 love the look, has some annoyances

3. CleanROM. How can you really go wrong with a debloated, desensed tweaked out ROM? I would like it more, but I am liking sense....

Newts gets an honerable mention, but needs to be deodexed

I have been runnin Clean Rom Pro 2.5 since it was released - 2.4 before that. Not sure how long it has been. Maybe a week or two. It was basically perfect. I had no issues doing anything and everything worked. So of course, b/c that was perfect, I just flashed RezROM S4 2.5 last night. Let it sit overnight - it's much better on my phone than the Venasaur ROM was. It's a little snappier - but I still hold that the Sense 4 ROMs are just not as snappy as the 3.6 ROMs are. There's just an ever so slight lag when bouncing around and it does bug me a little bit. Probably my OCD kicking in and it may not bother most people.

Anyway, so far the only thing I can see that's not working at all is Bluetooth. Anyone here running this ROM know a fix for this? It's gotta be a setting I'm missing or a fix I haven't come across. It just doesn't turn on.

Tie for #1 and #2 - RezROM S4 and Venasaur though I'm not a Pokeman fan (maybe because of my age) but once you turn off the boot up noise it's all good.

#3. Not sure really, those are the only two Sense 4 ROM's I've run and I keep going back and forth with every update. RezROM 3.4 was running like a top, it's definitely a quality ROM if you don't want to mess with Sense 4.

I got rid of the animation altogether
