Phantom New Email Notification

Anybody else have this problem? A few times a day, my phone dings like I have a new email (edit: HTC Mail app, using Exchange mail), and when I check it, there is the "email" icon in the notification bar. But when I go to the app, no new email is present.

This usually happens when I'm at my desk anyway, and I can confirm that nothing was received on the desktop. And there is never anything in the Outlook Junk folder that corresponds with the time the notification went off (thinking perhaps the phone is pinging on a spam message that Outlook then shuttled to the Junk folder).

It does seem to happen when I have left an unread message in my inbox. It's almost like the phone keeps forgetting that message was there and continually thinks its new. Goldfish memory problem?

Any insights?

EDIT: ironically, within minutes of posting this, I received an email on my desktop. I am now going on five minutes and my phone still has not received the new message. So it notifies me of emails that aren't there, and fails to notify of emails that are. WTF?

No problems here but my wife was having an issue on her D1 when she would have to refresh her account to get any messages. I fixed hers by clearing the cache and data which is the only thing I can think of to fix your issue.

Gave it a shot, but no joy. Just got a phantom notification.

I should also note that having "always on mobile network" on or off makes no difference. I get the phantom notifications either way.

That's something I'm glad isn't happening on mine. That would drive me crazy.

do you have any email threads, sometimes an unread email gets behind other newer read emails. You viewed the latest email, but not the one prior. When you pull up a threaded email, you see many email headers, but not the body. one of these might be unread.

hopefully this make sense.

I'm not sure I follow you. I'm using the HTC Mail app for Exchange mail (probably should have said that in the OP), not Gmail. It supports conversations, but not threads. Is that what you mean?

I was talking about the android mail -gmail app, not htc, htc does not thread the same.

Hey i just ran into the same problem in the store i work at couldn't figure it out. Then tried deleting the shortcut from the homescreen and readding it from the menu. The phantom message seems to have gone away probably a issue refreshing the icon on the home screen.
