Phantom Notifications on S9

Transferred all apps from old S8 to new S9 via the cable and I'm getting a lot of phantom notification sounds. Guessing it may be an app. Not sure how to find the issue.

Are they possibly unread text reminders? I noticed that was happening on mine. I would get a ding every minute till it was read.

Just a thought......

I use textra. I did go into the default messaging app and there was an unread message in there so I cleared that. I'm hoping that fixes the issue. Thanks.

That didn't seem to fix anything. I was still getting notifications and decided to do a full wipe and start over. The only data I restored this time was my pictures and video files. No settings, no apps, etc. I am still getting these phantom notifications occasionally but it isn't constant. This is an ATT S9.

I copied everything from my S7 to my S9 via smart switch and the cable, and I don't have this issue. What did you use for the transfer? I didn't use the AT&T setup & transfer app that came pre-installed, I went into settings and straight to smart switch. It copied my call logs, texts, apps, data, everything.

I used the cable and smart switch both times. The last time I only did photos and media. I had to redo all my settings. Over the past 2 days, it seems to have quieted down. I don't think it will be an issue any more, time will tell.

Have you solved this? Mine was doing this as well I *may* have solved it. Hasn’t happened in a while anyway. I think it was notifying whenever the weather updated. As soon as I turned weather notifications off in settings it hasn’t happened in 5 or so hours.

It isn't NFC as that is the first thing I turn off. I use a weather app and widget so I don't know if it could be the built in weather app or not. Also mine seems to have settled down where it isn't doing it anymore. There was also a firmware update I did last night from ATT. Not sure what that resolved. Battery life doesn't seem as good as my S8 for some reason.

Just experienced this myself. Received 3 notifications this morning. One email, one eBay and one Facebook. Before I had gotten around to checking them they already disappeared on their own and the respective app had no new notifications waiting for me. Meaning there actually wasn't anything new.

The last notification (Facebook) that appeared came and went within seconds.

I wasn't getting those types as you know what they are. The default notification in setting was going off on my phone and I had no idea what was causing it. Normally facebook has a different sound. Whatever was going off was using the sound in the default notification as I was changing my sounds per app such as email, text, facebook etc.

I'm coming from being a Note 4 user, and I'm new to more recent versions of Android such as on my new S9+, so I hope I'm not insulting anyone's intelligence with this:

Not sure why it wouldn't be in the Notifications settings menu itself, but... under the Accessibility Settings there's a toggle to enable/disable Notification Reminders for unread notifications. If enabled, you can then set the reminder interval, and then each individual app's reminder can be enabled/disabled. After I toggled all of them off with the one switch at the top of the page my phantom notifications stopped. Now I'll have to go back later and decide which apps I want to be reminded of unread notifications, and figure out the "phantom" app, but for now the mystery seems to have been solved.

This happened to me this morning 3 times. woke me up. I went to see what it was and nothing. I'll have to try some of these fixes and see if they stop.

First place I'd be checking is the Google App. Next time you get one if those random notifications check your Google feed and see if the time the card updated matches when the notification came in. This happened to me and it took me a good while to work out what it was.

Is your old phone possibly still on and connected to the internet somewhere? I was getting those on some apps until I realized they just went away when they came up a few seconds later on the old phone.

Just thought it was all over and got a phantom eBay notification now. Disappeared on it's own after about 5 min.

Thank you my friend. Was going nuts trying to figure it out.
