These past few days I've been using wifi for the most part with 4G & GPS off and my battery wouldn't last for more than 14 hours with regular use. Today I disabled wifi (Sprint's 3G signal at home and work are fantastic - so much better than AT&T) and my battery is at 83% after 9 hours with regular use. Hot dang!:D

I dont mean to doubt you but i find it highly unlikely regardless of your settings that you are at 83% after nine hours unless you didnt touch the phone once in those nine hours.

Hmm. By regular use, I don't quite think it means 'didn't touch'. I had my daily routine on the throne in the morning (yeah, I know) meaning a 15 minute session with the internet. Read 20 emails. Checking the game right now (Lakers!!!). Sporatic internet browser usage throughout the day. I'm right at 80% right now.

The point is, try disabling wifi. In my case, battery usage improved dramatically. Prior to this, having wifi enabled all day with similar usage patterns the previous two days, I'd be right at 30%-40%.

I'm sorry but if that is the only thing you did today, that is basically not using or touching the phone. I think most users having battery issues are heavy users at least compared to you.

Although ur battery life is impressive, it is a little misleading for those of us that are actually using the phone heavily. Also were you leaving on WiFi even where you didnt have a signal? Because that would drain the battery fast.

Yeah I would love some proof.
It's not that I don't believe you about the fact that regular 3g helped you, but 9 hours and down to 89%? You must have not been using it.

Wifi apparently accounts for 2% of my total battery usage... so I'm fine.
I think Wifi can hurt when you when your signal strength is low... and Evo already has wifi signal problems.

Man, all you guys are missing the point. Ugh. My battery went from a pretty consistent 30%-40% by this time of the day to a staggeringly better 80% simply by switching off wifi. That's the point fellas. It's not to critique my usage patterns but to find ways to improve your battery life. Yeesh.

Where did you get 89%?

Honestly who cares how much the OP used the phone on a given day. Some days I use my phone heavily, other days I barely touch it. Now as for the subject of the thread, I believe it. The same thing happened with my Pre. When I turned off Wifi, I got exponentially better battery life. Now with my EVO, I have never actually turned my wifi on, {the router in my house is all messed up} but I can say that even on days when I use my phone pretty heavily, my battery still holds up for a long time. I think the OP is right, I believe wifi is probably a pretty big battery sucker.

Geez guys, am I speaking martian here? Not using or touching the phone is just that, not using or touching the phone. Or did the English language change in the last hour? So you're saying my "not using or touching the phone" somehow reduced my battery in the last few days to 30%-40%? That's one lousy device don't you think? Or maybe my usage pattern actually drew 70% of the battery?

Rough crowd man...

I get through the day (8am till 8pm) at work , phone calls, plenty of text, email, about 40 min of gaming, web browsing for baseball & etc

I have installed the CPU downstepper for when the screen is off, and run ATK as soon as I'm done with an app.

Its battery is now at 39%.

Not bad.

I charged my battery today as per Siedio's recommendations (I have actually been doing this for my other phone and devices). Basically charging it an additional 3hrs after the light turns green. Here is how the night went for the phone....

1) Pulled it off the charger at 5:28pm.
2) Got to work at 5:57pm.
3) Started up Sprint TV and watched some Hannity.
4) Clocked in at 6:24pm
5) Got to my desk at 6:48pm and turned on Sprint TV again and left it on until 12:54am, this is also when it gave me a "15% battery" warning.
6) Shut down the system "work computers" and went back down stairs (phone was idle) at about 1:17am.
7) Showed off the phone to my buddies, Youtube demo, internet, movies etc.
8) Got home at 2:30am and the phone shut off because of low battery at about 2:43am.

Not bad in my opinion......

After I found out I don't need GPS turned on for Weather to tell me weather information, I keep it off. If I ever need directions anywhere, I'll turn it back on. I only have WiFi turned on at home. Living in an apartment, I get a much better WiFi signal than 3G or 4G. I have dropped quite a few calls just sitting at my computer. The 4G signal isn't that great right outside my apartment, either.

My phone has been off the charger for a little over 16 hours and is at 6% right now. I'm about to go to bed and let it charge until I wake up, which will hopefully be around 10:30. When I look at battery use details and tap cell standby, it says time without a signal is 20%. I work in a casino and the reception is terrible. Also, like I said, I get terrible reception at my desk.

I think the shortest my battery has lasted me was about 7 hours. I had Pandora on maybe 4.5 to 5 hours of that time.
