Phone app call screen problems Aug 2022

I am having a couple of issues with my Phone app call screen feature and I wonder if this has happened to anyone else. When googling the issue, all the related posts were from 2021.

When a call used to come in, I would see as choices Answer, Decline, or Screen Call. I could then watch the response to see what the caller said. That option has been gone for a few days at least.

On the advice of a chat to tech support at Google, I uninstalled the latest update and reinstalled it. Nothing is different EXCEPT that I'm stuck on "activating Call Screen (requires wifi)" except that I am ALREADY ON wifi in my house.

Anything anyone has done to improve these issues would be a big help to me as I don't know what I did to break it!

If Android 13 will fix it that's great, but I'm on a 6 Pro locked to ATT and have no available updates yet.

Just to be sure -- when you go to the Phone app's Settings menu and tap Spam & Call Screen>Call Screen, that's where it seems to be stuck on "Activating Call Screen"?

Maybe try the Reset Network Settings option?

I can try that, just to break the 5G connection.
Has anyone else lost their ability to manually screen incoming calls on the fly??

So yesterday I spoke to someone in Google Pixel support, they had no idea about this or information despite there being threads about it all over the internet for the past year or so. They said I'd tried everything they could think of and I should call ATT. Knowing I had to check the box, I humored them and called ATT, they reprovisioned my phone on the network and said that I'd already tried everything else that might affect the phone app's ability to detect wifi. I provided this information to Google and now they're telling me to try a factory reset. To me that seems like a huge cop-out and I won't be doing that unless I can find someone somewhere who said it helped.

I also forgot and re-added my wifi network, and enabled wifi calling, to no avail. I guess I'll give this forum another search. Meanwhile, Call Screen has completely stopped working.

I am not sure what app could be causing this, as they suggest - I have not installed anything that would mess with wifi as far as I can tell - I installed Google Assistant in case that was needed for call screen, and an app from my credit card company, and a game that I play in airplane mode only. I don't use launchers or VPNs or anything like that on my phone.

(Does anybody know if you can use a smart watch, connected to the phone by Bluetooth, and also have Call Screen work? There is a little sentence in the Help about how calls won't be screened if Bluetooth is on. I don't use my watch to do anything with calls and have turned off all notifications except emails, texts, and Messenger messages. I have had the watch now for a month or two and it seems to me Call Screen did not quit at that time although I suppose it's possible!)

Mine has apparently started working again, I got a call today from a new number and the Screen button was available. Who knows how these things happen.

I've learned with Google to just wait things out mostly... unless the simple tricks fix the problem
