phone automatically "rejects" unavailable, private or restricted calls. Goes straight to voicemail

For some reason, whenever I receive a call marked unavailable, private or restricted, the phone does not ring. Instead it "beeps" and the call goes automatically into voice mail. I have had the phone since December and all of a sudden it started doing this. I have not enabled blocking these types of calls via the phone's "block anonymous calls". I also have not enabled call blocking through the verizon wireless website. when i look in the phone's call log it has an icon with a blue circle with a diagonal line in it and says call was "rejected" (which I did not do.)

This started happening about a week ago. I called VZW's tech support and we did a series of tests. Finally, when the phone was put into safe mode, I was able to receive those types of calls. So the tech suggested I perform a factory reset - which I did last week. This seemed to clear up the problem. Then this morning, I started having the same issue with those type of calls going directly to voicemail and the phone beeps instead of ringing.

Anybody else have this sort of situation?

Anybody have any solutions as to how to remedy this situation? I cannot keep performing factory resets on a weekly basis.

thanks,

~ Sabrina

Hi Sabrina:

I don't have a definite answer for you, but in my experience, if something works in safe mode, but not in normal mode, the issue is being caused by an app that may or may not seem in any way related.

This shouldn't happen, but it does. I can't use my Microsoft Band 2 on my Nexus 6P because the Microsoft Health app stops my phone from being able to pair with anything else Bluetooth wise, and I discovered this by booting into safe mode, finding that Bluetooth pairing worked fine, then looking at the most recent apps I had installed and trying to uninstall one by one until it worked again.

So my question for you is - after you did the hard reset, did you recover back to your phone with all of the apps you had on it before? If so, it's likely an app. So go to the Google Play Store on your phone, and select My Apps. You'll see them in the order of last updated and then last installed.

See if any of them may be more obviously connected to your phone. Anything with caller ID like Sync.me, or Google Voice or even some antivirus software that has that as an addon would be the first place I'd look.

Best of luck.

I uninstalled the White Pages ID app from my phone. I used my computer's Gmail "make a call feature". through this feature you can make calls to US numbers. The numbers show up as "unavailable or private". Well the calls were ringing like they should. I hope this fixes the solution. I will miss White Pages ID. Thanks for the help

Do you have a note 5? If so I was having the same issue...I went to the phone icon on my note 5...Selected more in the top right corner...From there you will see "Block anonymous calls" you need to turn that off...Just swipe left and it will turn that feature off

(Working with the S6 Edge+) Phone was misbehaving even with this feature turned "OFF"

Re: phone automatically "rejects" unavailable, private or restricted calls. Goes straight to voicema

I have the exact same problem with my Note 5 and I did check my Settings and the "Block anonymous calls" if OFF so there's no reason for my phone to suddenly reject 'private numbers'. I missed 2 important calls from the doctor's office. Quite frustrating!!! I have searched online how to fix this and they only tell me how to BLOCK private numbers but not the reverse. Is there no option for that? I have looked everywhere. :(
I would appreciate some help!!
Thank you!!

Hey I was able to fix mine...Turns out I did have my phone set to block anonymous calls..I thought it was off, but I was wrong. Double check it...Go to your recent calls, then select more in the right hand top corner, then select settings, then call blocking, then block list...Next to block anonymous calls make sure to slide the little icon to the left...No more issues

Are you using a third party app? I use Hiya and you need to make sure that Hidden numbers is turned off in that app. I hope this helps.
