Phone/Computer Question

Hi,
I am new to smartphones. A friend gave me a HTC Vivid a little over two weeks ago. She couldn't figure out how to use it and dubbed it the phone from H_ll.
I love it!
I am still learning and have downloaded the manual.
I have figured out how to connect to my computer with the cable but is there a way to make them communicate via wireless?

I have actually done this at home. Since I didn't have home internet at the time, I just used a WiFi router, connected it to my PC via Ethernet cable, set up the router on the computer, gave permission to files on my PC to share on the local network, and, using ES File Explorer, I was able to grab whatever files I wanted at any time, so long as the PC was on.
