I am having a new issue with my Droid X, non-rooted and updated to the latest GB OS. As of this morning, when I go to bring up the phone dialer to make an outgoing call, it just flashes a blank screen and right back to my homescreen. When I go into my apps list and try to bring up Dialer, it does the exact same thing. I have done a couple of battery pulls and checked the radio connection which is fine. I can receive incomming calls and can call from my address book, I just cant bring up the Dialer to input a phone number and call.

Wondering if anyone else had the same or similar issue and if you know what might be causing it. I tried to search but didn't find any answers.

Thanks

Happened awhile back before gingerbread. Try cleaning out your cache.

Thanks for the advice. I went through and cleared the system cache and tried again but it is doing the same thing, just flashes and resets right back to the home screen. A little frustrating as I have never had this issue and all other functions seems to work just fine.

Can you pull up the Contacts list instead of the Dialer? If so, can you then switch to the Dialer tab and use it?

I can pull up the contacts list but when I go to the Dialer tab, it flashes the keypad screen for a split second and closes out to the home screen, same as the other ways to get into the Dialer.

I hope I don't have to call out to anyone other than my contact list! :p Any other suggestions?

I have found a workaround to this issue for now. I downloaded Dialer One from the Market and am able to use this program for outgoing calls where I have to type in a number. I also set my shortcut to this program so all works fine. It looks like it is an issue with the stock Dialer app with the OS.

Short of doing a hard reset, which will wipe all data from the phone, the only other thing I can think of is to install a third party dialer app. I just did a quick search of the Market for 'dialer' and came up with over 400 results. One of which I used to use on my Palm Treos, TAKEphONE. (I just might get that myself...)

im too having this issue since this morning..... i did a backup and factory reset and it worked.. but soon as everything got loaded back on the phone and i reset the phone, it started doing it again......its like something is force closing the dialer pad... contacts come up but when you click dialer it just flashes and closes...

That would indicate that you have a misbehaving app installed. Do the reset/wipe again, but do not restore all your apps at once. Restore / reinstall them one or two at a time, testing your phone in between each one until you find the one that causes the problem.

For people reading this thread for this issue. If the person who started this thread had frozen the yahoo app it would result in exactly this behavior. I realize they state they aren't rooted which should mean that they can't freeze apps (block them from launching by renaming or moving .apk to another folder from system/apps) so perhaps the yahoo app is somehow corrupted.
