I love my new Droid for all the neat stuff it will do, but I am having actual phone sound quality problems. Sometimes we forget that this thing is really just a phone. Everybody I have talked to said they hear themselves echo as they speak. I checked it out by having a friend use my phone to call me on a land line phone and they have all been right. ECHO echo.

What about your phone quality experience?

YES!!!! Well, not an echo persae, but I do hear myself as I speak and I hear the background noise too. So annoying!

I experienced intermittent in and out voice issues earlier today when I have 3 bars and speaking to a land line, never happened to me before on Verizon, aside from that it's been immaculate.

That echo is usually caused by the network not the phone. I would imaging Verizon’s network is taking a bit of a hit right now. This is the most feature rich and data network demanding phone on the network.
If the stories are true there have been over 100,000 new data phones on the network since this weekend. I do hope Verizon does not go through the same growing pains that AT&T is going through with the iPhone.

No quality hit here, only gain. As far as the sales, that doesn't represent 100,000 new customers as there are many of us replacing old verizon phones with this one.

I am getting a bad echo-I hear others fine but nobody can hear me-they hear an echo. This does not happen if I use another phone to call the same person on the same network.

I updated the phone with *228 and it worked for a day but now is back to the echo.

I am going to try exchanging it for another one as I love the phone but if nobody can understand me it doesn't help :(

I can hear everyone fine on my end but every person I talk to has trouble hearing me. They say there is an echo and sounds like I am very far away from the phone. From the tests I have done the problem does not happen while on speaker phone; however, they say it is the opposite, they complain that my voice is very loud.

Phone quality poor - no spell check- can't open attachments

I wanted to like this phone- I am giving it three weeks than back to my blackberry and maybe wait until contract ends and get an iphone -

I am not giving up yet however -

Try changing your voice codec (vocode) setting on your Droid by doing the following:

To get into the programming menu, from the call screen, enter ##PROGRAM and press send. Enter code 000000.

In option 04, you can change the vocode option to EVRC-B, or 13K, it made my in-call audio sound better. Your phone will reset after you exit and apply the new setting.

Warning: Be careful what options you change in the programming menu, you could potentially brick your phone.

Edit: Forgot to give the code of 000000 to enter at activation screen.

The EVRC-B setting is the newer standard, so try that first.. If you get any errors on outgoing calls, try the 13K setting.
