Phone freezing when 'sync' kicks in...

I've noticed over the last few months my phone will periodically grind to a hault and become unresponsive, then a few seconds later the 'sync' circle icon will show up in the status bar.. then once it disappears the phone is lightning fast again...

Services that I have set for syncing -

Dropbox
Facebook
Good for Enterprise
Google
HTC Account
HTC Weather service
IFTTT
Linkedin (removed just now to test)
Linkedin for HTC Sense
OneDrive
Outlook.com
Outlook.com (older version? removed just now as a test)
Paypal
Quidco (installed after issue arose)
Sky Go
Skype
Stocks
Tips & Help
Twitter
Waze
Whatsapp
