I got a phone from a friend, who told me would work with sim and carrier no problem. Wrong, so I contacted my carrier who told me phone was locked contact manufacturer to have them unlock it. Well, manufacturer told me carrier could unlock. So back to the beginning of the circle, carrier told me that phone is "half unlocked", contact manufacturer, again. Have not done that yet, I wanted an opinion or laugh or whatever, but can a phone be half
unlocked? I'm not sure if I should feel confused or the butt if a joke. 😉😄

Have your friend remove their Google account from the phone. She'll need her Google password too. If they don't have one or the other (or both), use Google Account Recovery. (It's Google's additional security - the account has to be removed before the phone can be used on another account.)

If the phone is blacklisted, not locked, the carrier should remove the phone from the blacklist - if your friend is there to authorize it.

If the phone is SIM-locked (it can only use a SIM from the carrier it was designed to be used with), the carrier would have to supply the unlock code (and the phone will be asking for it - that's how you know a phone is SIM-locked).

There are a few different types of locks, not just one that can be "half-locked".
