Phone Insurance

So I think I'm screwed. I want to get the Samsung insurance for my gfs s6, already got it for mine. When we got ours mine was in Stock but verizon had to order hers. We ordered hers on 4/30 and received and activated it on 5/6. I was thinking we had till the 6th to buy her insurance within the 30 days but the receipt for her phone says 4/30 which is the day we ordered it. Is there anything we can do to still get the Samsung insurance for her phone

I'd contact Samsung directly to see if you can still add it. If you do it online and add the receipt it may get auto rejected by whoever looks at that. It's less then a week past the 30 days, so there might be a little wiggle room if you talk to Samsung directly.

Called Samsung and they said it's through a 3rd party place and there is no leeway. I wonder if they look at the receipt when you submit your order and if it goes through you're ok or if they wait till you make a claim and then tell you it's not valid?

They charged me the moment I hit the confirm button, so I would guess that once someone looks at the receipt in the day or so after purchase and see the date they alert you that you are out of the 30 days and then issue a refund. It took a few days for me to get my 'confirmation' that welcome me to the program.

That's total BS. I would try again. When did they charge you for the phone?

If your phone was lost or mysteriously disappears, wouldn't it be as easy as filing a police report that it was stolen and then providing that to WF?

Wouldn't it be as easy as if
That would be one way of doing it. Sometimes when you lose something, it's difficult to determine if it is lost or stolen.

They never really charged me anything because I did edge but they printed a receipt on 4/30 when the phone was ordered. It was shipped on 5/1 and received on 5/5. I went to the store on 5/6 and activated it

I got a confirmation of my order within minutes of placing the order but I have never received anything welcoming me to the program or anything saying I am now insured. Should I be worried that I never got anything?

You can see it in your Samsung account online. It will have your IMEI on it. Samsung will also send you the policy in the mail.

How long did it take to get something in the mail. It's been 16 days since I ordered it

So you're being penalized for it not being in stock? I'd talk to them again and be relentless cause that's bull if they count the time when you didn't have the phone yet and would have been impossible to provide an imei number.

Phone insurance is an obscene waste of money that virtually NEVER pays off. Sure, you will hear stories here and there about folks who made out well on the deal but there is a reason why salespeople push these absurd products so hard. The profit margin is obscene. Think of it as getting less than $0.50 back on your dollar. If that's a bet you're comfortable with, then, by all means, buy one of these policies. Otherwise self insuring is unequivocally the way to go.

I agree for most people it is not worth it. It is not like traditional insurance where you are insuring against catastrophic loss. But for some people it makes sense. For example, for someone without income, like a student who needs the phone and higher replacement cost would cause financial distress (but the insurance premium would not), phone insurance might make sense.

They originally told us it may take 2 weeks for it to come in Stock which would have really shortened our time to buy insurance. I think if we wanted to go the verizon insurance route we still have until the 6th to do it, just out of luck for the Samsung one.

I would continue badgering Samsung until they do something about it. It's completely unethical for them to penalize you Verizon not having the phone in stock. Keep moving up the food chain until you reach someone who can and will do something.

I don't know who to even talk to since nobody there knew much about it to begin with and I was on hold forever. They kept transfering me to supposedly the right department but always ended right back where I started. It was very frustrating

I got Geek Squad on my S3 and it was a waste. Didn't get it this time. I do have a wells Fargo CC so I suppose I could use that to pay my phone bill. They offer insurance if you use your card to pay your bill.

We are thinking about going with squaretrade now since only them or verizon are really options. Anyone have experience with them?

If you have a Wells Fargo credit card and pay your ATT or whichever provider you have with it every month, they will replace your phone with a small deductible.

https://www.wellsfargo.com/credit-cards/features/cell-phone-protection/

Has anyone tried this? because the small print has a ton of exclusions.. like if you bought it anywhere other than the company store its not covered.. also not sure it covers broken glass..says something about if phone is still functionable they wont cover etc
