for the past 2 days while charging the phone, i notcied that the battery level is not charging up. the light is on, the phone says it is charging, but the battery level is not increasing. it is actually dropping while plugged in.

when this first happened, i left the phone plugged in overnight and when i woke up, there was a prompt on the screen saying the phone had receovered from some error and asked me to send the error log to google. i sent it.

but right now its doing the same thing. the phone is plugged in, light is on, it says its charging, but its not.

anyone duplicating this problem? i am most likely taking it to sprint tomorrow for this.

Does it die quickly when it's not plugged in?

Does a reboot fix it?

Does something like Quick System Info Pro show anything using a high amount of CPU?

Also, where is it plugged into.. a wall outlet or USB? Perhaps the USB is not putting out enough juice to charge.

I had this happen at a hotel. The clock radio had a USB port for an iPod that also charged. If I had wifi, mobile network and gps on, the phone indicated it was charging, but it was only able to keep the battery at the current percentage. Once I turned those 3 items off, the phone charged, albeit very slowly.

I tried charging my phone with the usb cord from my Kindle and had the same problem.

i've been having the same problem. if you have a solution to this, please post it. Thank you!!!

when you have the tech support at the store check your phone have the wall charger with you. It could be defective. I had a defective charger when I was on BB

weird my has a similar problem if its powered of and charging it doesnt want to turn on but if i take it off the charger then it turns on.

My HTC Hero is doing the same thing! The light is on and ill leave it charging for the whole night but it stays below 30%........sometimes even drops WHILE its charging. Please post if you find a solution!

Put the phone on airplane mode and see if it will charge with minimal power draw since no radios are on. Better yet turn the phone off and see if it will charge. If it charges, you are using a charger that does not supply enough power or your charger is bad. As long as its pushing out some power it should still charge when off and possibly while in airplane mode.

Make sure your phone is "sleeping" properly too with an app like CPU spy...

This is happening to mine now too. Last thing I did was used my friends iphone charger that splits into a iphone charger and micro usb which shut my phone down. I had to pull the battery to restart. I think the iphone requires 2.1 amp while the evo 3d just needs 1amp. So I have a feeling the iphone charger put out to much amps that the phone can handle and fried something in the charging circuit.

any resolution to this? I have an EVO SHIFT that is doing the same thing.. Its only 2 days OLD. I am using the charger from the old SHIFT that we had before we told it in to sprint to get a new one since the screen was not working.. the new one says its charging but doesnt actually charge... or when it does it doesnt charge that much...

Had the exact same thing happen about a month ago. Took it to the local Sprint store and the said the battery was shot. They put in a new battery for free without even looking up my account. Been fine ever since.

I am having this same problem with my HTC hero. I've tried charging with the phone turned off, a few different chargers, nothing works. Light is on, says it's charging, but is actually losing power!

My phone is doing what the original poster said except I haven't received an error.
My phone is fairly new I have only had it for four months.
At first I thought is was the charger not working (I was at a friends house. I used her charger) when I got home my charger wasn't work either.
It seems that my phone isn't even registering that it is even plugged in, I say this because I tried plugging it into the computer and no notification came up to
see if I wanted to turn on the USB.

  1. Take out your battery and check the pins making sure none are depressed and are all evenly out.
  2. Try different angles of the cord in your USB port moving very slowly to see if you get a charge light. It may take 1-2 minutes before the light comes on.
This happened to me and I had to get my phone replaced.

I have been having the same problem. I removed the battery and put a voltmeter on the on the phone's internal battery contacts while it was connected to the charger and found I was only getting about 3.5V. That was enough to light up the amber light and run the phone, but not enough to push charge into the Li-Ion battery. Normally chargers produce about 4.2V to charge the 3.7V cell phone batteries.
So, I used a few drops of alcohol on paper tissue wrapped around a thin-bladed knife to clean a couple of year's worth of gunk off the phone's micro-USB port contacts. There was lint in the socket and dust and corrosion on the contacts. The alcohol wipe quickly cleaned it all out. When I plugged the USB connector back in, I found I was imediately back to 4.2V and afterwards I had a rapidly charging battery... Good as new.
