Ok I'm stumped.

I have the phone set to turn on and off via double tapping. Works fine. However it seems that a majority of the time when I take my phone out of my pocket, the phone is already lit up and in some cases some oddball app is running...clock..calendar etc.

I've never had a phone do this unless I press a button by mistake. That's not the case here. I can literally put it in my pocket, walk down the hall, pull the phone out and it's lit up.

So what am I missing here, is there a way to stop this?

Thoughts?

Sounds like your power button might be the culprit...just guessing.

I have had the same thing happen to me. I now place the phone with the glass facing out when I put it in my pocket and it hasn't happened once since I made the change.

This is likely your answer. I used to keep my phone screen in on purpose to protect it should I decide to run into anything. I was having the same thing happen, so I flipped the phone around and bang! problem solved.

This has been happening to me as well since the recent update. Yesterday I've tried putting with power button facing upward and it didn't happen. I will try that again today and report back.

I use a pin and at least the screen only stays on for a few seconds if accidentally tapped. Maybe you can disable the double tap feature and just use the power button to turn on.

This happens to me a lot. Especially if the pants I'm wearing have thinner pockets. I just turned that feature off. For whatever reason it doesn't always work when I want it to anyway.

Happens to me as well. I had to disable my trusted Bluetooth device so it would stop opening at the lock screen.

I would like it if you could tap in corners insurance in a pattern like LG has on some phones.

Or, allow a rhythm pattern, like a knock code. (2 knocks, 1 knock, 3 knocks, etc)

As it is, it's too sensitive for only 2 taps to open the screen.

Has someone found a better solution to this problem?

I loved the "two tap" lock/unlock. And keep my phone with the screen facing out my body isn't a solution.

Thank you!

I have seen it much less maybe the update did something It doesn't bother me as I use a pin and unless the pin is used phone goes black after about 15 seconds, using the on off button is not a big deal either I often use it instead of dbltap. You can disable this feature if it really is a problem for you.

My phone was opening up in the pocket also...was driving me nutz!
I set up a pin to secure my phone and since doing that the pocket start thing hasn't been a problem.

One strange thing is that when I unlock the phone it often opens with the dialer instead of the home screen.

Another thing - this happens to me if I have Snapchat open. If I shut off the display while in the Snapchat app any snap notification will open Snapchat to the camera, which means the screen won't turn off.

Having the screen keep coming on is one of the reasons I returned the phone. I love the double tap to wake (as I did on my Sony Z3) but having it come on, and sometimes try to dial an emergency number are silly. Maybe it's due to the weight of the phone bouncing in the pocket? It is heavier than my 5.2" Sony Z3 was.

Having the 'Emergency Call' button on the bottom need a swipe, instead of a press to pull up the dialer would also have saved some aggravation.

For now the only solution is to set up a password so that it doesn't accidentally send your nudes to your boss!

Asus should provide us an update which won't wake up the phone by double tapping as long as the proximity sensors are in dark areas (like inside the pocket).
