so today i noticed that my phone's active notification keeps coming on every 5 seconds when there's nothing coming in to notify me. so its just basically flashing the time on me every 5 seconds. why is it doing that? it hasn't done that before. i restarted even and that didn't fix it.

update: seems to do it only once in a while. can't determine what makes it do that.

I have the Moto X but haven't had that issue with active notifications. I know with any movement at all the time will flash on and back off. Like if mine is sitting on a table next to me and someone walks by the vibration of the footsteps will trigger it but not repeatedly. Maybe try a hard reset?

update: seems to have stopped. not sure what started it and why it suddenly stopped.

Mine will seemingly flash at random, but when it happens it almost always because of some nearby vibration like a door closing or chair moving. Once I sit back down and get still it stops. It makes me fairly impressed with sensors in it.

It's funny because my phone will flash every few seconds after a new notification comes in, but otherwise it flashes every 30 seconds to a minute. No amount of jostling seems to affect the flash rate, except one thing - if I flip it over, then flip it back, active notifications flash on the screen. Ive tried shaking the phone, jostling it, knocking it - nothing.

Are you using a screen protector? I ask because I put one on that didn't have the cutout for the proximity and ambient light sensors, and mine wouldn't notify either. As soon as I cut out that spot, it went back to normal. I think it uses those in addition to the gyroscope sensor to determine if it's in a pocket when it's moved and prevent the notification when you can't see the screen.

I do, but it has a cutout for the sensor (as well as the front facing camera), and the sensor works properly when I make phone calls. That's not it.

see mine does it still and i don't have a screen protector or a case. i put it on a steady table to see, and still does it. it doesn't always do for every single notification, it's just sometimes it does. not sure why.

I think this is the normal behavior. I like it, I frequently glance at the time when it's just sitting there. I feel like it's one of the smartest innovations on smartphones yet.
